ALX 170 Posted December 30, 2012 Share Posted December 30, 2012 Just got back from Django. Not as interesting as some of Tarantino's other films that's for sure. The plot was pretty simple and predictable (then again every Western is). I read they were going to cast Will Smith as Django and that would've been a ****ing mess so I'm glad they picked Jamie Foxx. In movies I've seen this week: I'd rank it under Les Mis but over the Hobbit So I guess I'll keep Les Mis a 10, give Django a 8.5 and lower the Hobbit to an 8 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Bad 32 Posted December 30, 2012 Share Posted December 30, 2012 I watched a few movies over the Winter break. ted - 9/10: Pretty funny movie overall but a little inconsistent. Some parts are dull while others are hilarious. The Perks of Being a Wallflower - 10/10: Probably my favorite movie of the year. I loved the book and was glad to see that the movie didn't disappoint. And then I went on a bit of a Joseph Gordon-Levitt marathon because I love his work (and he's cute ) Looper - 9/10: It was a little confusing at times and there were obvious plot holes, but it was a brilliant movie overall. Mysterious Skin - 10/10: It's a little uncomfortable to watch at times, especially the first 20 mins or so where pedophilia is depicted. Nonetheless, it sends a powerful message about child abuse and how it leaves a lifelong impact on the victims. (500) Days of Summer - 9/10: I normally hate love stories but this was refreshing. I didn't give it a 10 because it got a little boring in the middle imo. 50/50 - 10/10: Great story and excellent performances by Seth Rogen and Joseph. Pity Party 743 Posted December 31, 2012 Share Posted December 31, 2012 Resident Evil Retribution 2/10 I adore the RE movies (i have all of them on dvd), but WOW this movie is horrible. I never thought i would hate a RE movie. This movie is full of plot holes, some of the worst acting i can remember seeing, bad special effects, the corniest moments and one liners i have ever seen in one movie. None of this is an exaggeration, this is is one of the worst movies i have ever watched. The thing that the RE movies had going for it was getting to watch Alice annihilating zombies, well that doesn't happen much here...basically just boring gun fights that don't keep your attention at all. This movie is so bad i heard that it had people in the theaters laughing unintentionally. Bottom line - Plot holes galore, really bad acting, tons of corny moments and one liners, bad special effects, no good or memorable fight sequences. No reason to watch this movie sadly.. Guest Posted January 2, 2013 Share Posted January 2, 2013 Beasts of the Southern Wild - meh, it's authentically characterized and visibly boosted by good filmmaking, but I just couldn't connect with it or the characters. To me, it tried too hard to compel. I also found nothing show-stopping about Wallis' performance, and though she seems natural for much of it, I also sense that she was very coaxed throughout. I feel as though the pacing & the editing helped shape her performance as well. All in all, I just didn't care for it. 6/10. Django Unchained - what can I say, it's got Tarantino stamped all over it I loved it. Loved the stylization, the acting was top notch, it was entertaining as hell, hilarious, outrageous, rather exploitative, and very exposing. I found it authentic in its execution & characterizations. Loved the spaghetti touches. Not Tarantino's absolute best, few scrumptious exchanges to write home about, not too structurally sound; my great objection is its length - you can feel it's long, especially during the transition from act 2 to act 3 (when I come back to it, I'll surely fast forward through a lot). Tarantino again employs a clever way of making the exaggerated or fabricated scenarios feel entirely real & contingent in the world he reinterprets. Loved Samuel L Jackson, man was he a hoot, but my favorite performance was actually DiCaprio's. I very much enjoyed both their characters. 9/10 The Impossible - Not so big on the editing, terribly affecting, has an incredible realism to it, great performances - from Watts and the kid especially. 8.5/10 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
