What about it is? Because the kneeling is about race. The football player acted as he did because he felt as though the flag did not stand fro him as a black man. That's not political correctness, that's expressing your political point of view and should prompt questions about race relations in America atm rather than people focusing on the very act itself. It's about the meaning behind his defiance. Whether you agree with the venue in which he chose to express his political views is another matter, but the very basic act of it shouldn't be contentious. Just as we're allowed to burn the flag, you need not show it respect either. He exercised his right to not salute it just as the NFL expressed their right to sack him for it (though I think that was not the best idea, personally).

It's not about race, it's about disrespect to the flag. It's a longer subject matter that I would be happy to discuss. If Democrats used the type of argument you did then I think things would work out much better for them. Instead, like the Twitter user in the OP, they immediately make everything about race - "calls 'black men' sons of bitches." It's insanity that every single line of attack the Democrats have is calling racism. It's hard to have any kind of debate about serious issues when they only talk about how the opposition is trying to bring back segregation, and it's backed up by flimsy, circumstantial evidence at best. It's a cop-out. I used to be a Democrat and got tired of feeling like my party was perpetuating the atmosphere of hate and making me feel like everyone was out to get me, when in reality the Republicans were having completely different conversations.

the problem is people complaining about the protesters don't really "respect" the flag or else they'd be standing up for the protestors right to free speech.   It's just that people kneeling for the anthem triggers some peoples jingoistic nationalism.  Their idea of respecting the flag is simply toeing the party line.   They care more about the symbol than what it represents.

In fairness, Donald Trump is not exactly a paradigm of racial justice lol so I will freely call him a racist as there are more instances to cite than there are miracles in the Bible. I understand your broader point, though. I will contest it, though, by saying many of the representing Republicans have exhibited racial biases in the past (for instance, Jeff Sessions). I, for one, don't identify with either party and find both to be petty, stodgy and ridiculous (also for policy and ideological reasons), BUT it is important to denounce racism when it appears just as it is also equally important to be able to have civil and sane conversation. I think you're hitting back less at democrats and more at the ill-informed white savior types who feel this racial guilt and overcompensate through their saviorship. Correct me if I'm wrong in that assumption, though. If I'm correct than I agree with you. When I say it is important to denounce racism and identify it when it happens, it's also equally important to propose solutions and open discussion to invite others to confront their internalized racism. Just yelling someone down with slurs doesn't do anything but make them become more defensive in their beliefs. So, to those saviors, I think, yes, call out Trump for his racist remarks when they come, but also keep in mind that you have to also be the one to articulate the vision for the future you want in clear and concise terms.

Sick of the race-baiting. This is not about race, once again. It's about extreme political correctness.

Has he forgot that any citizen has the right to do whatever they want with that flag, we don’t have to stand for the flag or have respect for it. calling for him to be fired is unconstitutional and evil. How ****ing embarrassing is it for the POTUS to call a football player a SOB when he did nothing wrong but calls the white supremacist “very fine people” when one of them that day committed a terrorist attack.

i wouldn't stand for a flag of a country that treats people like me heinously either and if i were white and on the football team i would kneel in solidarity.

and let me point out that these people are more fired up about not standing for a flag and patriotism while in the same breath ignoring the fact that russia meddled with US democracy.

the sheer ignorance and hypocrisy of so many americans is astounding, let's just call it what it is.

Supersonic

I think the popularity and opinion on America everywhere in the world overall has never been as low as it is nowadays. If you would have asked me two years ago if I wanted to go on a vacation in the USA I would have said "hell yeah", now I wouldn't even go if I had a free ticket.

This orange monkey has made it its mission to destroy any kind of integrity of the country he's supposed to lead. Sad.

the kneeling happens at the national anthem for the specific reason that there is racial inequality in america, so i don't see how you can argue that it isn't about race when people like the president and his followers are attempting to suppress a legitimate protest against undeniable racial inequality in the US? let me also add that frederick douglass did something similar in his time regarding july 4th.

i don't want to be so forthright, but sometimes the truth hurts: it's honestly difficult to have a debate about serious issues when one party is so far in crazy town altogether on a bunch of issues no less not just a few that whatever "compromise" is come to, if any, is automatically going to be half crazy. for example, on climate change, environmental issues, healthcare, the russian meddling, not to mention the fact that DT even getting the party's nomination and the subsequent events that have taken place afterward are telltale indicators of the ideological state of the GOP.

i will also say that liberals are hella annoying to me too but i honestly don't understand how one can go from being a democrat to a republican in this day and age. and it's not even a liberal vs. conservative thing, it's more of going from a party who operates for the most part on fact and i would even say principle vs a party operating on the total opposite of all that, operating on fantasy, whimsy, the rich, and for the sheer sake of the "W" (the win)

I disagree with a lot of your points but I would have to get into a lot of really minute details about the Democrats perpetuating racism, and statistics that prove the exact opposite of a great majority of their points. There is not racial inequality in the United States, there is income mobility no matter who you are. But I'm going to tap out of that intricate conversation in this topic, respectfully, at least for now. In general, though, I really do feel as though leaving the left really enhanced my life. I have never felt so free and open. The Democrats make all of their policy points off of how we are all supposed to feel oppressed by this great enemy out there, as though we are always a victim, and it's draining to take part in that, especially when every single one of their examples, almost, turns out to have numerous holes in them. It's fine to be against racism, etc. but that general theme and stance doesn't mean that the Democrats aren't constantly looking to exploit that by searching for evidence for the conclusions they already arrived at.

He's such a mess...and those that oppose the leftists, Democrats, hippies and so forth sensitivities' to social justice and our global village are just not making an effort into understanding or educating themselves.  They'd rather be "right" in their closed off minds than have to make an effort in changing their outlook, beliefs and behaviors.  It's much harder to self-evaluate and put forth meaningful change in one's life than it is to continue down the path one is already on.  Kind of like it is easier to hate than to love.

Anyway, anyone else do this when they get info on 45 and this administration?
