They're not going to release the soundtrack songs like singles. She won't be doing promo for the soundtrack,  she'll be promoting the movie. And as the European leg is only 5 weeks, I'm sure she'll manage to squeeze it in some time between January and May.

Well we don't know for sure what will happen with the soundtrack. It's possible she could have a "let it go" moment. Not to mention she didn't even promote PI when she had time so I doubt she'll try to cram her schedule to promote the movie, especially with her health. I'm just expecting some tweets and IG posts

My comments are not intended to be negative, I'm simply being realistic and analyzing the information we have available, because whether you like to believe it or not, it's sort of my job to know what I'm talking about on these matters :D

So the first half of the movie is good?

what did the guy say about ASIB and Gaga's performance.

This push ain't good at all. idk y some monsters are being delulu and saying that ppl are reading into it too much ' etc when we're not. WB did the same thing with The Great Gatsby, they had HIGH hopes for the film but they saw a cut, didn't like it pushed it from Dec to May so that it can at least make some money. It wasn't a success critically or commercially. I'm really scared for ASIB now

I would agree with you if they decided on a February/March/April release date (notoriously a dead period and dumping ground for movies that studios know aren't going to do well). May is not a bad time at all though, it's the beginning of summer blockbuster season, and they can take it to Cannes. Also, if anything, I feel like this puts less pressure on it to be some critical darling, but its also a good sign that they think it has potential to make some decent money, especially considering it didn't have a ginormous budget.

Oh wow, such exciting news!! I guess Gaga won't be getting much rest next year until the second half of the year

Well the movie is done filming already right? So as far as the movie goes all she might do is a couple interviews or shows to promote it but the bulk of the work is done

I mean: sure its great that the movie is coming sooner b/c that means we're getting the soundtrack, trailer, etc sooner. So as fans it's nice we won't have to wait as long.

But, an earlier release means the studio has little faith it'll be an awards contender, which means they probably have little faith in the film as a whole. I personally am disappointing by this news b/c against all i odds, I was hoping it would be good, but now this seems to have confirmed the contrary.

Not exactly, though I hear what your're saying.

This movie (remake #4) wouldn't have any chances in major categories regardless of the release date. What the date change tells me is that they're aiming at special awards. They've heard the soundtrack and most likely see it as film's major strength. So, by releasing it at the beginning of summer, WB will have a showy premiere at Cannes, and will try to push the soundtrack/song to a major hit status. Money talks everywhere and Hollywood is not exception. Last remake with Barbra was critically panned, but it was the fourth highest grossing movie of that year. And Barbra scored an Oscar for best song.

It's clear, that they liked what they saw in terms of it being a boxoffice draw. Let's take it from there.

Warner Bros usually does heavy marketing for their films, I feel like a "couple" of interview won't be enough for them

It will come down to promotion, at the minute no one really knows or cares about the film since we haven’t seen a trailer etc. We need a scandal or something to draw people in, imagine if there was rumours Bradley and Gaga were hitting it off behind cameras. I hope it’s successful and Gaga receives positive reviews, because if it’s critically panned and a box office failure it will have a huge impact on Gaga’s career.

:what: there's still jan, feb, march and april

I have exams in late january and early february. Don't jinx it.

On topic: May releases mostly don't get nominated at the Oscars but I knew a Best Actress nomination wasn't on their plans. They are campaigning for Best Song, MMW

I haven't seen the movie. I know people who were among the first to see it when it screened as a rough cut a few days ago. To protect them (they likely signed NDAs), I am not about to publicly detail every single thing they said about the movie. But, I trust them and what they told me. And I think it'll be important for us to manage our expectations with this release.

Some people just cant read between the lines.

I'm not saying it's unique for the second half of the film to be edited this far out from a movie's release date. But the first half of the picture is locked. The second half is being carefully test-screened and edited based on feedback. But, it wouldn't be entirely unprecedented for a movie to be locked and finished within a month of production wrapping. Just look at Ava DuVernay's Selma. That thing wrapped in the summer of 2014 and a cut was edited and finished within 5 or 6 weeks of the end of shooting.

Right but I would bet editing ASIB would be a little more complicated because of any performance scenes and crowd shots - they were still filming those very recently.

I've been really hesitant to get my hopes up about how good the film might be but I'm just as hesitant to start predicting failure based on a May release date and some not-great reactions to an early screening. Some pretty strange predictions are happening with not much context being considered so it's annoying.

edit* Also, would you be willing to say whether the reactions you've heard regarding Gaga's performance were positive, mixed or negative?
