Why would they specifically kill dogs when cow leather is readily available? Dogs don’t yield much skin anyways and there is no market for dog skin. Thus, you can be safe in knowing that your leather is most likely not dog.

It's a byproduct of the dog meat trade, cats skin also used to make leather too. 

They also pass off rabbit and racoon dog fur for imitation faux fur in some cases because it can actually be cheaper to produce. So be careful if you want to avoid real fur even if the label does say it's faux if it's made in China.

if we didn't attach so much humanity and personality to our pets (i.e. dogs) we wouldn't be as upset about acts like these. it would just be another livestock type of situation. as much as i hate to admit it, there is a high demand for dog fur, meat, and skin because it's so taboo and wrong.
