Guest bostonGUY
I've read comments on how this is a huge gay anthem (apparently) and I really don't understand. The song is about dancing and disco, not love or accepting yourself or whatever. Maybe someone can enlighten me because I don't get it

juju 18,907
the disco scene was a prominent place for the LGBT community back in the 70s, and Kylie is a gay icon, that's pretty much it. Gay anthems haven't always been strictly about acceptance or love, sometimes they're about a need to party and let loose. ❤ x ❤
Guest bostonGUY
7 minutes ago, that juju said: the disco scene was a prominent place for the LGBT community back in the 70s, and Kylie is a gay icon, that's pretty much it. Gay anthems haven't always been strictly about acceptance or love, sometimes they're about a need to party and let loose. Never thought of that... Benji 20,113
Because gay clubs (discos) and dance music have always been a sanctuary for the LGBT+, the war against discrimination is on pause whilst you're in the club / sanctuary. The lyrics also speak about travelling to meet someone who is also lonely, a feeling many gay people have felt having to look for love far and wide due to the dating pool being smaller and to find a place free from discrimination. Add the lyrical content to a very "gay" instrumental and you have yourself a gay anthem

Bio 23,538
The disco was the gay church back then. The only place you could go to be yourself without judgement of the normal world. That's why.

Altair 2,000
I don't know who that is but sometimes a gay anthem doesn't have to have an acceptance theme. I don't get that But take dancing queen for example
