Do you think Gaga will become a spokesperson/advocate for chronic pain?

Based on some her tweets and interviews about chronic pain, it definitely seems like Gaga is looking to raise awareness about her condition and help fellow suffers feel less alone. She wants to spark conversations and interest about chronic pain, and she has already succeeded in doing so. Fibromyalgia had received a huge increase in searches since Gaga's announcement, according to google trends:

Fibromyalgia and other chronic pain disorders are very misunderstood, because sufferers often look healthy. Even some doctor's do not believe that fibromyalgia is a real disorder. If Gaga wishes to do so, she could deeply benefit people with chronic pain disorders by continuing to shine  a light on her experiences. Im not saying she owes the world her advocacy or anything like that. I just think it would be a really nice thing for her to do and I do think she will continue to talk about it, im just not sure at what level. It would be really great if she could be a panel member or deliver speeches at chronic pain conventions and stuff like that, since her presence will ignite media attention. I can see her becoming more and more of an advocate as she gets older, because I know that using her fame to make a positive social impact is important to her. At the press conference at TIFF, Gaga even said, "My pain does me know good unless I transform it into something that is."

Looks like my question was answered. I am so incredibly proud of her

"As I get stronger and when I feel ready, I will tell my story in more depth, and plan to take this on strongly so I can not only raise awareness, but expand research for others who suffer as I do, so I can help make a difference." -Gaga

Is this for real :toofunny:

Yes. There were free copies while I was at my rheumatology appointment a few months back. :toofunny:

To answer the original question, I think she'll definitely be an advocate for chronic pain and make awareness about the situation. I think she has to be careful, however, since there's been talk in the chronic pain community about sufferers being worried about people making assumptions such as "if Lady Gaga can go on tour and do this and that, then why can't others you do this and that?" etc etc and people also being worried about people jumping on the bandwagon and claiming to have the same thing (think of the gluten-free trend/fad) and being like, "Oh my god, I have sore muscles too!!!!!" without even doing any research. The concerns are valid despite but I still think the voice she'll have is going to be good for the community and awareness since it does seem like she decided to speak out more. :)

Despite some people voicing those concerns most of the people in support groups I'm in on Facebook have been pretty positive overall and are happy!

I was watching this video that discussed that thought. Its a valid concern, but people have to realize that we only see Gaga when she is at her best and she is probably able to do more than the average person (who has fibromyalgia at the same intensity that she does) because she has more access to resources. Also, her performances may take everything out of her for 2 days, we just don't see the crash. I feel like people are so quick to judge and take things at face value when they dont know the full story of her situation.

Unfortunately, I don't think people are going to put too much thought into the more resources aspect—this happens even without a celebrity opening up about their struggles. I've had people tell me that their friend has the same thing and they're still capable of working, doing this and that, etc and ask me why I can't do the same without realizing that everyone/situations are different. People like that usually don't change their opinions as much as it sucks and you just have to let it go 99% of the time. It's been a long battle before she opened up to the community which hopefully can change over time. If Gaga can even change one person's mind, I'd consider that a success.
