LittleMonster20 9,858 Posted September 17, 2017 Share Posted September 17, 2017 CONFIRMED FACT: In the summer of 2013,Jimmy Lovine(the head of Interscope),agreed with Gaga that Sexxx Dreams would be released as ARTPOP's lead.However,after Gaga thought a song called 'The Applause'(which currently of course goes by Applause)wasn't good enough,and didn't wanna put it on ARTPOP,Jimmy Lovine heard it,got obsessed,and Gaga started liking it too,because she realized that the lyrics of the song suited her current situation,in which she was in pain because of her hip,and the only thing that kept her going,is her Little Monsters(our)applause.They renamed it Applause,and it got chosen for the lead single. Aura was also allegedly going to be the lead single,but that may be a fake rumor.Gaga leaked it anyway,so it was probably to let us know that she still wanted it to be a single,but it was never(and certainly not the lead)a single.However,it got used as the soundtrack of the movie Machette Kills 2,were Gaga also played a small role in as La Chameleon,so it didn't get completely to waste. Venus was meant to be the second single,however,her label(Interscope)saw more succes in Do What You Want.Venus was also the last produced song on ARTPOP,being fully produced in September 2013,one month before Gaga handed the whole album to Interscope.Do What You Want got released as the second single,and was really succesful,debuting in the top 20,and it even was #1......for a few minutes Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Free My Mind 2,209 Posted September 17, 2017 Share Posted September 17, 2017 I don't think she ever intended the joanne era to be a long one tbh. shes no longer a singles artist, she throws all her effort in to creating solid full bodies of work in her albums. as for TV ops, a lot of that comes from her mental health I think. Same with ARTPOP...she did only 3 videos from the album and did just a few performances....while orher artists releases lile 5 or more singles for each album (basics songs even) release videos and do basic performances like in everywhere... moonpig8400 110 Posted September 17, 2017 Share Posted September 17, 2017 I feel like Joanne is more of an ALBUM album..... to be enjoyed as an album... rather than one of those albums that is HIT SINGLES and the rest fillers.... Joanne's less accessible I think and less built for the pop charts ! BUT I definitely agree with you the singles being weird on ARTPOP, they were all messed around. And the lack of videos for Do What U Want (cos it was scrapped) and Venus (though i preferred Venus without a video lol) is what did the album damage and everyone saying "Gaga is over". Applause was the only single that came out and stuck in the public consciousness: the cancelled video for DWUW means it wasn't played on TV, and G.U.Y came out quite late and wasn't that grabbing (IMO) so it felt like there was only one hit from ARTPOP -- when really there was a plethora to choose from ! To me it doesn't, i'll enjoy it either way. We don't need validation from the GP to enjoy Gaga's music. And I get it that you're upset somehow, but she is her own artist, she doesn't have to serve our needs in order for her to be creatively fulfilled. Plus she deals with a lot of stuff and she does her best not to disappoint herself and her fans, so we should cut her some slack. She is only a human after all. Im not asking for promo and charts...I want her to perform and make videos for the music she makes, like she cant leave songs like Diamond Heart, Dancing In Circles, Angel Down fade like nothing as happened with (SheiBe and Heavy Metal Lover , they're great songs....she should honor them.
