Those albums, and artists, are generic, boring and totally lame. Joanne should clearly win if those are in the running alongside her. (Kendrick, that other guy and Ed rest on their laurels making what they know will sell (just like Katy, Rihanna, Beyonce, etc), what has worked for them before, nothing new from any of them, Joanne was a clear departure from what Gaga has done before and is another reinvention and change in direction.) Gaga should definitely win. Commercial success and popularity are rather important in getting an Album of the Year nomination though. Drake's Views and Justin Bieber's Purpose were both nominated and I'm inclined to say Divide and Starboy are better albums.

My heart tells me one thing but my mind tells me something else For all of the above reasons (and a million more) I think she'll get the AOTY nomination...BUT... I don't think she has one good one to win For Million Reasons on the other hand, she has a great chance of winning SOTY. It's her comeback single, it's old school (and the Grammys are very old school) and in years to come it'll be seen as her signature song Rock on Grammy Queen of country ballads A nomination would be good enough. I'd celebrate if it takes the trophy, but let's be grateful for a nomination already.
Bradley 59,153
Quality is important in determining whether or not an album gets an Album of the Year nomination, but commercial success and impact within the industry are super important too. Thus far a lot of people rooting for Melodrama are saying it will get a nomination because it is 'critically acclaimed'. Tbh a lot of albums are critically acclaimed but their lack of success or popularity cost them a nomination. This year we had a lot critically acclaimed albums, American Dream by LSD Sound System, Rainbow by Kesha, Melodrama by Lorde, Pure Comedy by Father John Misty, 4:44 b Jay-Z, obviously there isn't enough room for every album mentioned to be nominated. Purpose by Justin Bieber and Views by Drake were both nominated, and Views only received mixed reviews. Purpose received good reviews but not acclaimed. Joanne has both impact and received generally positive reviews. It's not like Joanne was panned or something. Let's remember this is an 'OF THE YEAR' category we're talking about and Joanne was the biggest female album of 2017.

The Grammys tend to favour artists who are at least ten years into their career, so I think she has more than an advantage over some of the newer acts. HausOfMiklaus 1,803
Post discredited when you mentioned Melodrama not getting a nomination. The delusion.
MelbHawker 6,583
I think she's in with a chance with Joanne for an AOTY nomination. The producers are Grammy favourites. Million Reasons I hope will garner her a SOTY / ROTY nomination; it's so deserving. I have a feeling Ed Sheeran will do well re: the upcoming awards. I'd put Melodrama, Starboy, DAMN., Divide and Rainbow as my predictions for nominations, with DAMN. taking the win. I have said this before and I will say it again. Those who think Rainbow will be nominated are just delusional. No hate or anything, but the chances of Kesha being nominated is lower than Million Reasons getting Best Music Video

Joanne is great but it has volume issues, I find myself having to constantly adjust the volume to hear the low music then all of a sudden I need to turn it down once the vocals come in. Starboy is just so smooth 😎 You'll never know what they submit in. Maybe they'll submit a more polished version of Joanne sounding heavenly
