Huh? They submitted BTW for AOTY. They didn't submit it for SOTY/ROTY probably because afraid of Express Yourself backlash. But they still submitted to all three categories

Born This Way was nominated though?

Sure they did send Born This Way for AOTY... But only that's good.

ARTPOP was way more tragiqué :selena:

Although The Cure isn't from Joanne, it does keep people talking about Gaga, especially on radio.

I don't think they will go with an all-male lineup, I think Divide, DAMN and (24k Magic/Starboy) and one indie album will constitute four nominations, and then Joanne will make the cut.

I mean can you imagine an Album of the Year lineup without female? It's not like no one is trying, her name is Lady Gaga.

It will be hard to ignore a woman, but it has been done in the past. 2013 had an all male lineup. They could have easily included Pink or Miranda Lambert that year.

I'm not too sure about Joanne, I think it will definitely be nominated in a few categories but not certain about AOTY.

I'd put Melodrama, Starboy, DAMN., Divide and Rainbow as my predictions for nominations, with DAMN. taking the win.

Rainbow over Joanne? Really though?

They always like the put at least one lesser known (but critically acclaimed) album out there. Still, it's possible.

It's gonna win at least one (million reasons)

Yes, I think it does have a better chance. It wasn't really commercial or anything but the album has strong backstory and vision that's consistent and present throughout the whole album and had a very good reception. Joanne had a lot of complaints about how the album's purpose and theme wasn't present through the whole album and it wasn't really cohesive.

I do think when it comes down to it Rainbow would be more favoured than Joanne, personal preferences aside.

Rainbow is NOT getting in the general field. Kesha is just not big enough. She has a nice little story that has quite the following on forums but she just isn't a big enough name. She will be lucky to get in the pop fields and if she does, that will be her reward. Pink has neveer been nominated for Album and Kesha is several tiers below her.

Melodrama has a much larger chance of getting a nom over Joanne.

MY dream nom list:

Melodrama (winner)

Joanne

CTRL

Lust for Life

Process

What will probably happen:

Melodrama

DAMN

Divide

Starboy

Either 24K or an indie/alt group

Winner will prob be Damn or Melodrama with Divide having a chance.

It was 2012. The winner was kinda predetermined the moment the noms came out. If Gaga really wanted that Grammy, she might have moved the BTW release to early Oct.

I will be surprised if it's nominated for AOTY.

Imo, when juxtaposed to the other potential nominees, it's just not as stellar.

I think melodrama deserves its over Joanne, and even then I don't think it's the best album of the possible contenders

But what happens if you look at it objectively. I agree Melodrama is better, and yes it deserves it over Joanne. But objectively speaking, she really only has the critical acclaim going her way. If she killed it at the VMAs and "Homemade Dynamite" became a hit, thats a different story. But objectively speaking Melodrama and Joanne have more or less the same chances as getting the female slot in the lienup. She also didn't get in the lineup with her debut which was MUCH bigger profile.

Gaga has the superbowl, sold out tour, documentary, potential SOTY nomination, emmy nominations, and this year it seems like she is beginning to transition in to legend status in the industry. She may also get sympathy for having a condition yet still able to sell out tours. She is a previous nominee also performed at the Grammys for 3 years in a row, receive standing ovation in 2 of them.

Melodrama really only has critical acclaim a head of her. Yes its a better album but voters don't really listen to the album again. They just checkmark what they've been more exposed to.

This is where I get confused.

Are nominations based on music or based on the career as a whole for the tracking year?

I do not think Gaga should be notimated for a Grammy because of Super Bowl, sold out tours, emmys, or anything else, just like lorde shouldn't not be nominated for a VMA performance and a lackluster era.

if anything Banks deserves it over either of them but I know that's not happening.

Nominations are based on both the quality of the music and the commercial impact that album makes.

That's a fact whether we like it or not.

Melodrama and Rainbow deserve the nomination more imo. I don't really like Melodrama but as a body of work both albums surpass Joanne in most aspects, except sales of course.

I wouldn't be suprised if it wasn't nominated. Million Reasons however might prevail so we still got that.

Either way, as much as it's nice to see her gaining recognition the Grammy's are hardly as respectable or significant anymore.

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
