Guess Whether These Headlines Came From Breitbart or 1920s KKK Newspapers

Like many of his colleagues, historian Peter Shulman has cautioned against the excessive use of Nazi comparisons in assessing our present-day political scene, arguing that those in search of historical antecedents should study our very own homegrown history of white supremacy instead. Recently, he was browsing around in a new database of Ku Klux Klan newspapers from the 1920s when he noticed how eerily similar the headlines in some of the regional and national Klan publications the database catalogs were to those that have run on Breitbart of late.

Shulman saw echoes in “tone, temperament, sensibilities, fears, feigned outrage, and emotive language,” he told me over email. The comparison works in other ways, too. “The Klan of the 1920s,” Shulman pointed out, occupied a similar political position to today's Breitbart—“on the fringes of mainstream politics but capable of driving issues in ways mainstream politicians had to respond to.”

Can you tell which of these headlines are Breitbart and which are KKK? (We've removed the obvious chronological markers.) Good luck!

There's nothing harder for people to do than admit they were fooled.

the fact that the line is blurred between Breitbart and the KKK of the 20s is a sign that humanity has evolved so very little, we're no better than the neanderthals of the past.

edit: got 11 out of 16... yikes

KKK was violent, but you knew their intentions and what kind of people they were, the problem with Breitbart is that they disguise it with their free republican press mask.

And i think that long-term thats more dangerous than the KKK

President Trump

This is one of the dumbest quizzes and comparisons I have ever seen.

every single example is as follows: "Americans are concerned about immigration," or "America was built on her people." These are not inflammatory comments. The titles are so innocuous that they could be comparing the KKK and the New York Times and it would return the same results.

Who said this, Hillary Clinton or Hitler?

"The most important question is the problem of our short-term and long term indebtedness abroad."

What a ridiculous quiz :saladga:

"I am the world's greatest person that does not want to let people into the country."—US President Donald J. Trump
