because humanity is stupid af why don't we all live in a world where it's easy for others to digest that love is love

we talk about it so much for so many years and people are still judging you for loving a man, isn't it getting boring?

Keep in mind it's literally just a survey, over 90% of the country could vote yes and the government still doesn't have to do a thing :crossed:

Although having a very high yes vote will still be a very good thing, shuts down a lot of 'Australia doesn't want this!' arguments for a start and puts even more pressure on the government to just pass the bill to legalise it. A no vote might delay gay marriage here for a very long time. Skipping the whole vote and just passing the bill to start with would've been even better though

Do you feel him sir?

actually Australia is one of the most intolerant countries against minorites, it's full of racist, sexist and homophobes:emma:

plus no other developed nation treats their aboriginal people as bad as Australia :wtf:

but let's hope they see the light

As an Australian, I absolutely agree that Australia is a racist, sexist and homophobic country.
The way we treat Australian Aboriginals is deplorable and the way we treat refugees is awful.

With that said, we are not so bad that most Australians are explicitly racist, sexist homophobes. We're comparable to the U.S in many ways. I'm not at all saying that's a good thing, it's just to put things into context.

The postal survey will no doubt come back with majority support for marriage equality. For years polling has consistently shown that most voters support same-sex marriage.

Among those polled "certain" that they would vote in the survey, 70% of respondents say they would vote yes. That's a higher percentage that the U.S had before they managed to pass marriage equality through the courts and it's a higher percentage than Ireland when they had their Marriage Equality referendum that passed.

Even when looking across the age groups, polling suggests the majority in every age bracket supports marriage equality. Among party lines a majority of liberal party voters (the conservative major party) support marriage equality and it's obviously the same for the more leftist parties (albit, they have a higher amount of support). I would be very, very surprised if the postal vote came back with a majority of Australians disagreeing.

Of course, this is isn't a legally-binding vote but, as much as I dislike our current Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, it's extremely unlikely that they will ignore their promise to respect the results of the vote.

I haven't received the form in the mail yet. I'm paranoid that my parents will throw it out so I can't vote. They're completely against same sex marriage and it really gets me down.

It's actually really, really horrible here at the moment. Opening this issue up to the public on such a large scale has given people the thought that they can have any opinion they please without actually considering the responsibility that comes with that - on both sides. It's almost as if now we are voting whether identifying as LGBTQI... should be legal or not and people are hiding behind this debate to express their intolerance of gay people. It's like, ok, we get it, you're gay and I'm putting up with that, isn't that enough? It's disgusting and it's made me really ashamed of my country.

That isn't true. In fact Indigenous-Australians by law have more rights than us. We always acknowledge that where we live was their land originally. Many of them are also allowed free housing, free money and can live free without a job. There can be a small amount of idiotic racist pigs who undermine the Aborigines, but what you said isn't entirely correct. As goes for the homophobic part. It's pretty much 50/50 when it comes to tolerance for gays, probably more towards the accepting side, there are many gay pride events in the cities and in some public schools they promote lgbt awareness through hanging up the rainbow flag. I don't know where you got the sexist part from, unless you are referring to the Julia Gillard "Tony Abbott is a misogynist" speech. Women are just as equal as men, awareness and charity is even run around violence against women. Where are your receipts?
