Gaga's was authentic af, Miley's too but yea for some other artists it's more of a marketing strategy. Not gonna name names but you know who it is :bon:

sis that country thing came out of nowhere for Gagz

I loved the album and this era but there where moments where I felt she was really trying so hard to connect with the general public just to make sure they could delete from their minds the old image of "Lady Gaga"

Spoiler

definitely not as desperate as Katy Perry but still :laughga:

I am excited but my expectations are kinda low tbh

I mean I'm kinda over this "I'm gonna show you the real me" thing that most artists are selling right now

I totally get you. Jessie, especially, has been selling every album as "this is the real me" from the beginning. So, this fourth incarnation of the same old Jessie J method just doesn't hit me as hard as she wants it to. She may have made generic music before now but she was claiming that this was the real her throughout. I think she's just annoyed that she's flopping, it's not that she thinks she's lost a special something that made her great. Like a lot of artists who came before her, she's had a couple of flops and is on the brink of giving it all up because of that. Any kind of artist can endure that, it doesn't mean you've become fake and lost yourself or something. You're just not doing well anymore. Guaranteed if all her albums had been mega hits, she wouldn't have gone through this whole "I don't know if I want to make music anymore" phase.

And I also agree that showing the "true self" can ironically result in one of the most calculated, generic stages of an artist's career. I feel Gaga and Kesha carried it off well because they've actually been through tough times but someone like Jessie? Other than flopping, what hard times has she gone through that can make us believe that this true, confessional, real album is going to something different than what she's offered us before? Every album she makes involves a couple of songs about fighting through the bad times and keeping strong, so I don't know how much further she can take this message and make it different.

I completely disagree. For me it felt very natural. What makes you think going she wanted to delete her old image? nop she never wanted to do that. She's always alluded to the fact that she was not going to be the Gaga that everyone fell in love with all through her artist life. Listen to her Howard Stern interview from 2011, she  mentions Bowie and how the fans didn't like it when he left the ZS character or when he tamed down his image. It's all part of the journey. well it's up to you how you want to perceive it, but being a monster since I was 12 I never once felt that she ever tried to 'pander' to the GP or any community in particular, she was always and has been herself.

I'm on the fence with Jessie. I absolutely loved her first album and a few other songs here and there, and she has an outstanding voice. The thing I miss with her is sincerity and conviction in her delivery.

I know she studied the greats and learned all the vocal runs and tricks, but she forgot how to make that go in hand with emotion. Before her debut album was released, I saw her subway performance of Who You Are and I believed her, but now, it's just vocal runs, trills and mind blowing notes for decoration.

I didn't feel this trailer was sincere either and it was almost painful sitting through 3+ minutes of her playing with her hair, but I'm keeping an open mind. Bring on the music!

without having listened to it, it's probably a mess

at least this trailer already is, cringe

This trailer ///alone/// is already better than any album visuals that Miss Gaga served us with Joanne. And I’m not even a JJ fan. Be humble.

I have to disagree with you on that. John Wayne MV? Perfect Illusion MV?

Also, you don't win a discussion by being passive agressive.
