Why do you think Ageism effects...

Cher has faced a ton of negative misogynist ageist bullshit over the years. BUT you're right that compared to what M receives it is far less, and I think it comes down to Cher being seen as this wacky eccentric who's ultimately harmless and nonthreatening, whereas M is held to some bizarre standard. Cher never sold millions of albums like M or had the same global impact, so thats part of it too. The higher up on the pedestal you are, the bigger the target you are. She is literally one of the most successful self starters the world has ever seen, and a lot of people hate her for her continued success. Another thing is SEX and sexuality has always been a huge part of M's art, and sex taken seriously, not as campy joke, and a big part of ageism is denying women "of a certain age" their sexuality.

I just hope that I outlive Madonna, because I want to be here while the world reacts to her death and she gets all of her just accolades. :applause::tea: :firega::fthis::bye:

She has been my role model since I was a child.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Good point. Even Dolly Parton is accepted like Cher and she's had tons of surgeries and has a sort of sexualised look with the massive cleavage.

It must be down to music and talent. Everyone knows that Cher and Dolly have the talent to back it up. Madonna is talented to some degree but is lumped in with the likes of Britney because of manufactured auto tuned pop songs.

If anything, Britney saved Madonna's career in the 00s, after American life Madge was pretty much over for the GP, Britney revived her. And Britney is not guilty that many people don't respect Madonna as an artist and singer.

Because Madonna didn't realize she has aged

Madonna is aware of her age. She just doesn't let her age affect who she is and what to do. No one should.

I think it's mostly a media thing and some stupid guys that can't handle the fact that even their grandmother are enjoying sex and wants to feel sexy..

And tbh Madonna is not old at all.. she's still young and still beautiful.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

You clearly just read what you wanted to read which was an attack on your fave and jumped to defend Britney. You can't have a discussion if you can't accept that other people have differing opinions and my post was a valid one.

Cher may have had surgery to chase youth and her costumes are a bit out there for a woman of her age but that's about it. Other than that, she's embraced aging. She doesn't hop on current music trends and feature young artists on her songs in an attempt to be down with the kids. She knows her fanbase and doesn't try to be anyone but what she is. She's also quite warm and light-hearted. That warrants a certain level of respect. But not only has Madonna attempted to chase youth looks-wise but she actively tries to act young as well, features young artists on her work in an attempt to get on the charts, chasing trends that don't suit her, still acting like a teenager trying to rebel, trying to hard to be edgy, not realising it's not a good look anymore. She also has a very cold demeanour and doesn't come over as friendly in interview. Admittedly, I understand why her, at times, troubled life has led her to be this way but for someone who's achieved what she has and has children she adores, you'd think she'd act a bit more happy. She's also extremely bitter and has said nasty things about fellow artists over the years. Ironically, Cher's only ever really been known for shading Madonna but she doesn't do it to anyone else.

But I just want to add that it's possible to be fun-loving and young at heart but still be mature and realise when you take things too far. For example, dressing in revealing clothes at an advanced age isn't fun in and of itself, it's just shock value, for example. And dressing in such a tacky way won't get you respect at any age anyway. Wanting everyone to be decent in public isn't ageism. Not wanting people to bare their breasts and behind at their live concert certainly isn't ageism. It sometimes seems like nothing's sacred anymore.
