Bebe 17,289 Posted September 6, 2017 Share Posted September 6, 2017 People find it easy to forget that more voters went from Hillary Clinton to John McCain in 2008 than went from Sanders to Trump in 2016 (https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/8/24/16194086/bernie-trump-voters-study) Blaming Bernie Sanders for Hillary's loss is short-sighted and blaming progressive Democrats, who overwhelmingly voted for Hillary in the general election and a large number of whom got drawn into the process because of Bernie, is just divisive political smearing. The data shows that the few defectors from Sanders to Trump were older and whiter than the average Bernie voter in the primary and also less liberal. Only about 17 to 18 percent of Bernie to Trump voters say that they're liberal. They are also overwhelmingly unlikely to identify as Democrats. In other words - Sanders brought in voters that Clinton was never going to appeal to. A majority of these defectors voted for Romney in 2012 over Obama. Of those that didn't vote in the general election, the vast majority didn't vote in previous elections - meaning Sanders 'activated' these voters and they dropped back out once he lost the primary. Hillary didn't appeal to those voters. Hillary never appealed to those voters. She was never going to win those voters.
