Hey, everyone.

I just happened to be playing Til It Happens to You a few minutes ago and will probably replay the song somewhere throughout the making of this post. But I was just wondering how everyone feels about the song.

Personally, I honestly find it to be her most powerful ballad (but not her best). The instrumental I feel does a really great job of capturing a devastating scene, and morphing it into a triumphant one as the song goes. I feel it applies so well to my life. I'm gonna leave out a chunk of detail as it would be too much to write and it's a little hard for me to talk about, as it still affects me the most today. So if it feels like something is missing, that's why lol

The first verse and chorus reminds me of one of my lowest points before coming out as gay: occasional thoughts of suicide, not feeling loved, feeling alone. You truly don't know how it feels til it happens to you.

The second verse reminds me of my turn around, which was about the time when I discovered my love for Gaga's discography. I started chasing a different mindset and picking myself up from the trench I had let myself sink into. I kept telling myself that I'm no different from any other person roaming the Earth. I didn't choose the people I like, I was born this way™. Slowly but surely, I was able to assure myself that I was just as valuable to this planet as anybody else.

Second chorus and the bridge comes around, and my friends start to coming to mind. I truly would not be where I am today without them or Gaga. The love that they shared is what has kept me going everyday. So many times throughout my life, I always felt like the odd one out in my family; like I was the least liked. The one who received the least attention, and I just never understood why. Yeah it sounds like a bitchy complaint, but it really started to make me feel so alone. Fortunately, though, I discovered who my real family was once I came out to my friends. They loved me more than ever before and made me feel comfortable and proud to be who I am. To this day, they support me like you wouldn't believe and they're truly like brothers and sisters to me. I wouldn't trade them for the world.

By the last chorus, as you could probably guess, it's kind of like a reflection for me on everything I was able to overcome. I'm proud where I stand today, and I'm damn happy at how I've turned out.

Thank you for reading. I'd love to hear your experiences with the song. :)

It's such a sad song and I rarely listen to it. I think it's great but it kind of depresses me a little bit. The meaning of it can be applied to not just sexual assault but cancer, having HIV, losing someone, etc. it's very tragic and I love Gaga for writing about something so personal.

It's not my favorite Gaga ballad but it is a great song, I just have to be in the mood to listen to it, same with Dope.

I feel like people overrate it a bit because it's about such a strong, real and tragic thing that unfortunately happens in our society. The instrumental is magnificent and her vocal performance is flawless but the lyrics are a bit weak and superficial in my opinion.

Pop Music

I think it is a gorgeous song. It is so personal and so heartfelt you can tell she was sadly in those shoes. It easily should have won an oscar and I feel like it effected gaga greatly that it didn't but she'll never admit it.

Pop Music and Lady Gaga forever!

REALITY

I literally just finished rewatching her Oscar performance, so this is a bit of a coincidence

From a lyrical and conceptual standpoint, it's extremely powerful and amazing. The topic of sexual assault is often considered so taboo, but I applaud her for making such a powerful and emotional song. It's also written in very broad and vague terms, which makes it applicable to almost any other situation, which I think only emphasizes its meaning.

Sonically speaking, it's not my favorite ballad of hers. Her "Dope" vocals are fine, but I feel like she has this vocal effect which I don't necessarily find pleasing. I also wish that she put in more of an "Oomph!" into the song. I would have liked it if she went higher in the song, like she did at the Oscar performance, or just did something a little bit more, maybe with more growl or a harsher tone of voice. That being said, it's still a beautiful song!

I love it and I appreciate the soul and emotion Gaga brought to it with her voice.

It's a fantastic song, but not that easy to listen to....

A song like Million Reasons is much easier to consume, so I like it better, but no doubt that TIHTY is an incredible piece of art + statement

The lyrics coulda used some tuning up, but other than that 10/10.

I have nothing  but respect for the song. The lyrics are real, raw, honest and touching, not to mention the vocals are :firega:

I don't listen to it because, for me, it's too personal, emotional and powerful. I am happy she made the song and am proud of her for it but listening to it is not something I can do.

That it's a fantastic collaboration. The fact that they managed to make a song about sexual assault, a very touchy subject, be nuanced, dynamic, and most of all subtle is an Olympic feat lol

Sidenote: by subtle, I don't mean the general message which obviously isn't st all, but the way the song goes about reinforcing the message. The little things that all contribute to the strength of the song.

I don't like it.

Its showcasing a good message, and the Grammy performance was powerful, and it was ROBBED

but I still don't care for it :selena:
