2012 Grammy Awards

I know there goes a saying : let bygones be bygones. However, what partly makes it so great to be a Gaga fan is her legacy:diane: and how we often get lost while debating her career moves (often thinking we know it better :selena: ).

So, for 2012 Grammy Awards, Gaga and her label submitted You and I and Judas for Best Pop Solo Performance, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. It's understandable why they chose not to send Born This Way, the song, - there was too much Madonna Express Yourself controversy :madge:

But how do you think - why didn't they send The Edge of Glory for those three categories? It was by all standards one of her biggest hit in the States, it sold over 2,000,000 copies in 2011 alone and reached No.3 on Pop Songs chart. It has one of the best lyrics of her career, it's one of her most recognizable songs and it features the sax solo from the iconic Clarence Clemons.

And, secondly, do you think The Edge of Glory would have been a tougher competitor against Rolling in the Deep?

Yes but adele  was unstoppable that year. Still mad tho since born this way deserved grammy recognition. Had gaga launched the era with 2013 grammy as target she would have snatched

If we really want to talk about the 2012 Grammys, we need to mention how 21 robbed Born This Way.

Tbh 21 is full of songs that sound almost the same; with only half the album being great.

Born This Way is a masterpiece; even the tracks people consider fillers are more interesting and artistic than all of 21.

Even 25 is better than 21.

Yall are still mad about Sam Smith winning the oscar over Gaga but I will always be shook and pressed about Adele and 21 snatching Grammys over Gaga and Born This Way. :madge:

My favorite Grammys...snatched everything (and deserved every single one). The only person who should ever even consider battling Adele at the Grammys is Bey (and even she lost).

2012 just wasn't enough...(she won pop solo performance for the Royal Albert Hall performance of SFTTR in 13)

Don't you think that Adele's phenomenal year sort of diminished the reputation of Dance Pop music in some way? And that it was good that Gaga was eligeble for 2012 awards? Like if Gaga had launched the era with 2013 grammy in a target, she would have gotten into a cycle where the Grammy preferences had switched to Gotye, The Black Keys, Fun, Frank Ocean, Mumford and Sons and Jack White who dominated the general field in 2013.

It did but not completely. Edm was becoming huge side by side. Calvin harris became a radio staple along with david guetta.

I think what happened in 2011 was the expected renaissance of toned-down and emotion&vocal oriented music.

2008-2011 was the era of pop music being dominated by pop girls reviving the merry dance tunes and taking top 40 away from hip-hop and R'n'B. It started with Katy Perry (I kissed a girl, Hot'n'Cold), Britney Spears (Woomanizer and Circus) and Beyonce (If I were a boy and Signel Ladies) hitting top 10 in 2008, as well as Gaga joining them with Just Dance in December 2008 The era lasted precisely until Adele appeared in 2011 and showed thema popular and chart-dominating girl doesn't necessarily require to be Katy/Beyonce/Britney/Gaga/Rihanna type.

And 2011-2013 was the era when there was the demand for this sort of emotional softness, something we saw from Adele, from Kelly Clarkson (Stronger), from Fun (We Are Young), Gotye (Somebody that I used to know),for break-up songs (Part of me, I knew you were trouble, We are never ever getting back together, and it certainly peaked with Lorde's debut record.

So Gaga got like in the firewall between two trends and it was little that could save Born This Way from being fashionably ignored by the committee; they nominated it, though.

Oh how original

Guess you didn't have a strong enough defense so you had to reply with only a shady gif.

I can name numerous 2011 albums that are better 21.

But seeing how the Grammys favor commercial success and you having an Adele profile pic; it will just be falling on deaf ears. :reductive:

Eh not a fan of originality...just my favorite meme. I agree that 21 isn't the best album there is, but 2011 wasn't the strongest year for albums (though Radiohead should've gotten something..King of Limbs was pretty great). 21 has several fillers (I Found a Boy/Take It All), but easily beat the BTW fillers imo (these are all my opinions and many have different ones). Gaga has stunning vocals, but she doesn't use them on BTW. Several songs are also pretty autotuned (bops for dancing, but meh in vocals). I also like 21 since BTW wasn't too different from the general scene of 2011 (not saying that it sounded like everything else, but it wasn't radical and different). There weren't many huge hits that sounded like Adele that year. The 25 win this year is easily arguable, but 2012 was almost a no brainer. I'm always open to discussion (although I just love that gif so much so mind my obsession). I stand by my opinion that she deserved every single one of the 6 Grammys, and I respect your opinion.
