So this video popped up in my subscription section and I love her reactions videos so I watch it. Ok, it was interesting, I love how John Wayne video just left people wondering ''what the f*** happened?'':ladyhaha: But then I went to the comment box and saw this comment:

(The comment look terrifyingly long here, so you can go to the comments box of the video and find it)

Perfect Illusion is about fake fans and them constantly bashing ARTPOP, C2C and Joanne when those albums mean more to her than money, radio hits and fame. She's trying to say that after the party in the desert, those fans weren't really supportive of her choices. They were only here for the party aka crazy Gaga. They were all an illusion and in Million Reasons she is saying she only needs "one good" fan who appreciates her growth and voice to continue on in the music industry. It's a shame that she had to venture into jazz/country to see who was really there for her but now she knows it wasn't love. It was an obsession with her persona - Gaga. Which in the John Wayne video she kills off. She walks away as Joanne because she knows who she is now - a realized artist with a message.

I originally thought Perfect Illusion was about a Gaga and Taylor splitting up, but then I watched the video. Nowhere in the video for Perfect Illusion do we see a love interest, however we do see lights and fans in the desert. The lights represent Fame, like when she says "pressure's taking its toll" and "high like amphetamine". Fame does make you feel like you're high but eventually you have to come down. That's when the crowd disappears and she's left raging in an empty desert by herself. That's what she felt like after her fans left - abandoned and alone. That is the perfect allusion to what Fame does to someone. The fast pace camera work is a reference to how fast her life and fame is passing by. That in spite of the time and popularity she has, it's not enough to get people to truly care about her and her message. Also notice how no one looks her straight in the eyes, like people never show their true self and keep it real with her.

Perfect Illusion

"It wasn't love" = fake fans

"I still feel the blow" = reference to being high and also a reference to feeling pain 🤜

"Where are you? 'cause I can't see" = where's my so-called-fans when I'm struggling to find my way through the dark

"But I feel you watching me" = You critique my art, but where's the support?

"I'm over the show" = extravagant Gaga dead

"Falling free in a modern ecstasy" = I'm losing sight of my focus (love/art) because of Fame

And now onto, Million Grammys. That song I thought to be about depression as well, then I saw the video. It's obviously a continuation of PI, so we know she's trying to cope with the downfall of being high. Again, there's no love interest except between her, her sister and her management. Which represents her support structure as well as her faith. That of course is obvious but when she's in front of the camera she's put up in hair and makeup yet we never see her emote like she is with her rosary behind the scenes. That's something fans tend to look over - that she's a human first and foremost and she's bound to have struggles we won't see. Just the difference in the way she presents herself nowadays, says she's trying to become more fixated on her voice to the public and to her fans. That's what I get from MR, a gal who is trying to decide if should she continue to sell out to pop music or get back to a message people can't ignore. [I mean that's what I think went wrong with ARTPOP. People focused to much on her image and not necessarily the content of her music. And believe me, that album is deep as ****.]

Million Reasons

"To quit the show" = quit music

"Cut through all his worn out leather" = my old self/ways isn't what I truly want

"You're giving me a million reasons to let you go" = millions of fans/people who trash my art

"I just need one good one to stay" = my REAL fans aka Monsters keep me here, even if there's only a few

Then we get to John Wayne, the song about loving dangerous lifestyles. Basically, too much indulgence can lead to death. Whether that be too much alcohol, sex, drugs or fame etc, your life is just as fragile as the next person's. Although, we eventually see it was all a dream, I thought this video to be a vision. That if Gaga kept up her antics/performances, she would eventually end up dead. That the Fame she had would've consumed her to the point that she couldn't handle it anymore. We all know how depressed she was after she had to cancel the Born This Way Ball Tour and during ARTPOP and I felt she was near just giving up entirely. All I have to say is thank God for Tony Bennett because he helped Gaga at a time when lots of Monsters turned their back on her. Sadly this is my interpretation of these videos. That this entire trilogy is about the relationship with her fans, while dealing with her own past experiences. I mean what better way to convey a story between her and her fans than three love songs -  not necessarily about sustainable love but an existent one.

John Wayne

"Baby, let's get high" = let's forget about life for a second and have some fun

"So here I go to the eye of the storm" = back into the music scene I will go

"Just to feel your love knock me over" = I missed you Little Monsters

"Into our love storm" = our relationship is chaotic but regardless it's love ❤️

Don't get me wrong her relationships with guys/girls is obviously a concept she hasn't strayed from but she's a lot more focused on societal issues. The simple fact that she said PI is about social media, set the tone for the entire album. Just because we like things for what they look like, we forget about the intent + Gaga's intent has always been to change the status quo, to empower those who don't feel like they have a voice and to get people talking about REAL issues. So rather than just seeing a video about two people fall in (or out) of love, she wanted to talk to Monsters on a deeper level. I really hope you see this +AJayII and hope you continue to see the artistry + genuine compassion Gaga has been evoking for the past decade. Truly a trend setter and a visionary.

Paws up 🐾

So thats the comment, or a perfectly exposed theory of the what the trilogy means, like I like to call it. I thought this very long ago. Watching the MR MV you actually see how the fans hug her but then they just take her to a studio again, and well i think the comment explains things very well. I thought it was worth it to share, so what is your opinion?

Sorry for make a long-ass thread, sorry if is not the section were it belongs, sorry for my english, or something else, is my first thread too, try to be nice:selena:

I read all of the text and all I have to say is:

Spoiler

Also maybe get rid of the ajayii part in your title, since most of this thread doesnt have much to do with it and there has been already a thread about ajayii reacting to the JW MV wouldn't want your thread getting merged since it was more unique and intersting than the other thread!

Maybe just title it John Wayne MV theory?

Great first thread btw! :sara:

The only problem I have with this is that A-YO was the original second single, and thus it would have been the second music video... and A-YO does not have that same connection that Million Reasons might, which makes me think that this wasn't Gaga's intention.

Maybe it's what she retroactively interpreted the songs to mean when she made the videos? Idk, the Perfect Illusion one seems the most probable.

I agree with this theory. Additionally, I think the line, "cut through all this worn out leather" means she is struggling to dig deep inside herself and get to the root of her emotional issues to heal. She has this thick worn out protection over herself that she needs to cut through.
