Judaz 778
I sort of get what you mean. I think that she might just have to tone it down abit because of a star is born and her acting career.

Spoiler I meant no offense or argumentative attitude in my initial response, I hope you didn't take it that way.

Whispering 18,865
The lyrics to classic songs aren't "deep" enough...songs that have stood the test of time for decades now. That statement alone negated everything else in the OP.
Lextyr97 20,261
You just trashed Joanne's lyrics and praised that of The Cure. Sorry, but no

I do agree that her first four albums had lyrics that were much more complex than anything on Joanne. She was always known for how weird, confusing and complex her lyrics were. Joanne is decent, but for me personally, I don't find any of it thought provoking in any way. And the lack of visuals don't help either. But that's how it is with a lot of artists. You are going to have albums you like and albums you don't. It's natural and there's nothing wrong with it. P.S. The Cure (I love the song) is probably her least complex lyrics that she's had in an official release. Perfect Illusion, Million Reasons, Come To Mama and Angel Down + The Cure... All that recent songs have the same Gaga-complex-lyrics, like her previous albums, but in a deep personal and organic way. I'm talking about the instrumentals, too. That songs only could've been written for Gaga

TeenIdle 128,488
I love Artpop with all my heart but how is "Please retweet" + every lyric on JnD + singing about weed more inspired than Joanne? Logic unavailable.gif 𝖓𝖊𝖜 𝖗𝖊𝖑𝖎𝖌𝖎𝖔𝖓
djparky 265
No- its been nice to see her do something more natural sounding, stepping away from what she's done before.

SEANGT 5,515
i'm gonna disagree with you and say she's been in a creative crisis since ARTPOP. That album was really all over the place. I loved it. But it wasn't as big of a statement as her other work. Joanne is her going into her family trauma trying to think of something relatable to write about. Now this ASIB soudtrack/The Cure sounds like she's just making relatable songs without a strong connection to herself or a larger desire to make a statement. At least...that's a way to make your argument make sense. I think she had a lot to say and she said it, and that's fine. She doesn't have to make a huge splash every time, she's one person. JohnnyVersace 9,085
I think that she was focusing on acting and the larger scope of her career during the creation of Joanne. If you look at the Super Bowl, JWT, Coachella; they're all essentially greatest hits performances. Joanne allowed her to breathe, take a step back, and really focus on what she wants to do. I feel like her artistic spark will return, and the craziness will take new life with a new theme.
SEANGT 5,515
also I'd just like to add saying C2C is just "covers" really misses the point that they are some of the most classic American songs that ever existed and jazz artists put out albums with these songs all the time lol. Coming for these Jazz standards is like coming for Shakespeare or Beethoven or something. They're just objectively good they've had such insane impact you can't deny it. lol.
