Sailor 3,321
Gaga is in her own league. Her competition is edgy comedy (I'm looking at you, Taylor Swift), and memes (Katy, don't try it). When you look at what she's doing in comparison, that girl is on a Grammy-shaped roll. bannedT for life and it's SAD
Yelir 573
Everybody's taste is different from one another though. My taste in music is more about how it sounds and less about the lyrics behind it. I mean, if the song sounds awesome and the lyrics behind it are super meaningful then that's definitely a bonus but what pulls me into a good song/album is how it sounds to me and whether I find it striking. Joanne just didn't sound good to me. I haven't listened to the album in full since it came out. On the contrary, I have a friend who considers it her best album yet. Why? Because that's more her style and taste in music - she would consider Joanne the most creative thing gaga has done yet. We're all wired with different tastes in EVERYTHING and what I might call boring and uncreative, another person might call brilliant and creative. But for the love of everything, pppppplease I hope we get some catchy ass tunes from her next album.

thatfoxyfeeling 13,017
Joanne is more relevant in the industry than we give Gaga credit for. It's obvious artists like Miley were inspired by Joanne and the artistic style Gaga took for this era.
GABEL 1,853
I don't get it. you all called her indie artist when she released PI, and now people said Joanne is uninspired and nothing new. if creative means cryptic lyrics and weird costumes, girl you really has a limited perspective about what "creative" is. this album is supposed to regain GP's interests in her, and they are really not here for the complex lyrics and sounds in ARTPOP . and tbh I don't think The Fame Gaga could ever write something like MR and hey girl. GABEL 1,853
and btw, if there's anything stop her from being creative, that would be her so-called stans.I'm gonna burn my stan card if gaga do Jazz again!! she really needs to collaborate with RedOne and make TFM 2.0!! if you are that kind of fan, you have to realize you are the uncreative one, not her. you can't be her fan if you're afraid of changing. freebit 6,240
The clear thing you have to ask when it comes to creative progression is this: is the artist evolving in some way? To me, Joanne shows creative growth in that she has finally been able to craft an excellent ballad without needing to become completely hamfisted in delivery and lyrical imagery. When you hear that subtle change from "girl, where do you think you're going?" to "...and honestly, I know where you're going" in Joanne, the song becomes quietly moving in way that she's never been before. It's impressive for someone like her who is by nature, an everything-but-the-kitchen sink maximilist. I also feel like with her other albums, she was more all about the big idea behind the material (ARTPOP is the biggest example), but with Joanne it feels more like the entire album is centered around an emotion. Overall, I feel like you really just don't like this album....and that's perfectly fine, but to say she's in a creative crisis because she's making music outside your own preference is inaccurate. Lord Temptation 11,209
When you think about it Joanne is a very spiritual album. It's a simple message about how we all need simplicity in these complex times. And it's precisely what the world is craving from our heroes, whether it be artistic, political or otherwise. We live in alienating times; more social than ever, yet more distant. Joanne speaks to those who yearn to reconnect with our past, lost loves, and buried hurt. Runway 27,876
I can't even take you seriously for not knowing c2c is a standards album and daring to say the songs from the Great American Songbook don't have deep enough lyrics

Bebe 17,094
I know it's been said, i don't want to beat a dead horse, but I'm kind of in shock that you just bashed the work of America's most celebrated songwriters by basically calling their work shallow Those songs are American classics and standards I think it does speak to the overall feeling I got while reading your OP though - which is that I think you are confusing personal taste with objective quality. You like uptempo electro-pop songs which is fine, but it doesn't mean songs that aren't to your taste lack in creativity. I just see you criticising songs like Perfect Illusion for being repetitive in its chorus, when you could say that about basically any Gaga single: "Can't read my, can't read my, no he can't read my poker face (she's got me like nobody). Can't read my, can't read my, no he can't read my poker face (she's got me like nobody). P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face. P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face." "I want it bad, you're bad romance. I want your love and I want your revenge you and me could write a bad romance, I want your love and all your lover's revenge you and me could write a bad romance. WOoooaah caught in a bad romance. WOooooaah caught in a bad romance." "Ooh there aint no other way, baby I was born this way, baby I was born this way (born this way), ooh there aint no other way, baby I was born this way, I'm on the right track baby I was born this way." "I live for the applause, applause, applause, I live for the applause-plause, live for the applause-plause, live for the way that you cheer and scream for me, the applause, applause, applause". She writes pop music with catchy hooks, repetition is a part of that. Perfect Illusion has some clever lyrics, on par with her previous work: "I don't need eyes to see, I felt you touchin me, high like amphetamine, maybe you're just a dream, that's what it means to crush, now that I'm waking up, I still feel the blow but at least now I know it wasn't love. It wasn't love. It was a perfect illusion." The whole verse paints a picture where she compares this 'love' with a drug induced hallucination that wasn't real ("I don't need eyes to see" purposefully sounds like "I don't need ecstacy", comparisons to dreams/hallucinations and coming down/waking up, crush is both a reference to that initial feeling of infatuation with someone and crushing pills, she still feels the 'blow' comparing the love to a gust of wind that blows someone of their feet but also to cocaine that's also know as blow). Whether you like the drug references it paints a vivid picture, draws some interesting parallels and includes some clever word play. I think the rest of Joanne is well written too I think many of the songs on Joanne have stronger lyrics than 'The Cure' which is pretty straight forward lyrically.. Far more straightforward than any song on Joanne.
