Gaga has done commentary tracks about her (DWUW, Cake Like) and her love life (Perfect Illusion), too. Just because it isn't part of a drawn-out feud doesn't mean she hasn't done them.

Gaga did diss track and video tho :oprah:

1.) Paper Gangsta - A diss to Defjam, especially to L.A.Reid

2.) PARTYNAUSEOUS - A diss to Jakarta's extremist that made her cancelled her show to meet her fans there

3.) G.U.Y music video, a diss to her money hungry former executives like Akon and Troy Carter

Also, diss track isn't a new thing. People been doing it for ages. I say, let them do it.

What joke? The OP's argument? Or this diss track? Why are they suddenly called jokes now?

Even without Cake Like DWUW was still a clapback to her haters among the media

Bonkers

I don't think Gaga ever said this, but Do What You Want was DEFiNITELY for Perez Hilton.  It was essentially, "I can't stop you from saying what you want about me and my work, but you are NOT going to intimidate or control me."

blame it on streaming era...since streaming become mainstream selling an album its not profitable enough anymore...................... so just like beyonce said many artist today just following trends right now...bc theyre just wanna make a quick buck  realing single after single to just become "famous"

beyonce and  gaga are many relevant popstar with integrity right now that i respect

Smother Em Eh

Yes, it's truly pretentious and immature. It's a shame because they could be making great music, but choose to follow the "diss track" trend. Someone like Gaga needs to give these generic trend following pop stars some creativity! They are sure lacking it!

Gaga is on another level and is way too good for this industry and what those pop stars are doing. This is one of the reasons why she is in a league of her own. She goes her own way, and creates her path and legacy, instead of following trends!

I'm so thankful for Gaga! She is truly way too good for this industry!

Lol it was totally expected.

"Why doesn't Gaga release diss tracks?"

"She did."

"Oh well that must have been a joke diss track and now I'm going to reach for the Stars to come up with some silly justification as to why Gagas song doesn't apply. "

We shouldn't be surprised anymore.

I wasn't talking about the song but the things she did to promote the song. Remember she went on a big Twitter rant and adressed all the things that people disliked about her like being a Madonna copycat, being a flop, fat etc... Then she had a live performance with a rapist that did "sexual choreography" with her, and filmed a music video that was so provocative that she decided to not release it.
The OP talked about using buzz and gimmicks to sell music and this is exactly was Gaga wanted to do with the stuff I'm talking about

Whispering

Everyone? There are very few songs like this that are popular in any given year.

And DWUW is not a diss song. Talk about a reach. :smh:

Addressing criticisms head-on is not the same as a diss, or a diss track. And even if we take the song at face value, it is purposefully vague who she's talking to. Yes, Gaga uses extreme tactics throughout her career to mirror the content of her lyrics, but I don't think that's the same as purposefully causing/rehashing drama to sell a song.
