Can anyone, really?? And relatability is the #1 factor for me. You know, I think it's a very relatable song when you remove it from the pop cultural context that comes with Taylor. In my interpretation, the song is about having a good reputation that you have worked hard to maintain, only for someone to come along; manipulate you; use you; push you... before you ultimately snap, before you change as a person; before you stop taking **** anymore. Suddenly, you're fighting back, you're giving as good as you get even when that's not who you are... damn, look what you made me do. That's a very relatable concept to me. It can be applied to many different contexts. I mean, I've always tried to maintain good morals and tried to be as good a person as possible - but there are people in my life who have pushed me, at times, to become something I am not. They made me do/say/feel things I never would've felt previously. An anger and hatred that is alien to me. I am sure we can all relate to that? I think with Taylor's industry position though, the song is very obviously about being pushed and pushed into breaking the 'clean-cut' pop star image she and her team were organically able to build. It's about recognising that Taylor has played her part in the drama... but only because she was pushed. And a result of this, she has essentially killed her old self (her public self)... and that is what they made her do. They made her the centre of a narrative that, in my view at least, she never wrote. This song is epic, by the way. It's dark, haunting, mysterious... but fun, light-hearted and a bop all at the same time. It has insane replay value and is by far the best pop song of 2017. Taylor Swift did THAT. subtext / fantasy

I'm honestly sorry. I'm just really tired of people cutting it down, only because they don't like her. And honestly I'm a little drunk and I probably took it too far. And for that I'm sorry. I have a hard time understanding a fan base represented by Lady Gaga with a song like "Hey Girl" making bias remarks about another artist who is trying to evolve? Seems really contradictory to the movement of hers. I'll always be a fan but you can't deny everyone (here, ggd) wants her to fail, at least the majority. Whatever if I get banned. I understand where you're coming from. I guess my life is stable enough to not relate to it at all. Although I could relate to Shake It Off. The revenge atmosphere of this song doesn't really suit me or my environment. It might play really well with the teenage crowd, though? (No shade. ) There hasn't been much angsty pop music lately, this could be a replacement. Then again her lead singles always tend to be very "public image"-focused. Her album tracks & successive singles tend to be more general.
FRANK1991 3,318
it's ok, not much of a chorus is disappointing but better than Shake It Off (hate it with a passion) Cause once you let it go you better know it's gone

Weasel 12,525
I never was here for Taylor but I loved 1989. I'm shocked at how bland this is though. It's not generic and it doesn't hop on the latest trends, which is nice I guess. But damn ''oh, look what you made do'' with that bland beat doesn't do anything for me. Also, the way she sings in the entire song annoys me. Sounds like she's trying to sound sarcastic throughout the entire thing and it doesn't flow at all. If this was released by any other popstar it wouldn't do well at all I think

Rabbit Heart 616
I'll do whatever it takes to make Despacito go away, I'm sick of it, I've never even played the song, not once, but it's everywhere, in every single store on the radio :x unbearable... So I'm streaming Swift on Spotify! I like the chorus it makes me bop Her fr/enemies are done, buried Mrs Candy Cane and her plastic reality friends She better snatch that #1! I hope there'll be better songs on the album, I like this side of her!
