Robagaga 9,345 Posted August 28, 2017 Author Share Posted August 28, 2017 HARVEY UPDATE 28/08 Tropical storm Harvey is currently about to reenter the gulf of Mexico. It will move across the gulf until wednesday when it is expected to make landfall near the Galveston area as a slightly more intense tropical storm,with winds of up to 55-60 mph. This forecast might change so it is important to stay updated. The good news about this forecast is that the consensus is that the storm will travel to the right of the Houston Metro area, meaning the already catastrophically flooded houston area will be spared most of the worst rain bands. The current death toll remains 6 but it is expected to rise Corpus Christi and surrounding areas: Corpus Christi and surrounding counties are currently undergoing extensive search and rescue missions as the rain has let off. Damage around the spot where the storm made landfall is quasi absolute with no structure left intact. Upto 40 people are still missing or are unnacounted for. Many cities on the coast still have no electricity, water or cell phone coverage. More inland, Victoria has also been devastated with no running water and no power. Widespread damage is reported Corpus Christi emerges from the storm luckily relatively unscathed, the eye of the storm missed it. However upto 250000 customers are still without power San Antonio and Austin Metro area: This will be my last update on at least the san antonio are since Harvey has largely moved out of the area. San Antonio is still receiving steady rain but rivers and creeks held on and no flooding has been reported. The storm has moved out and san antonio should stop feeling its effects in the next few days. It is also reported the city will recieve over 10000 evacuees from the Houston metro area Austin's rivers and creeks recieved moderate flooding but no properties were put in immediate danger. However the winds were stronger than expected and upto 15000 people are without power in the area. A flash flood warning remains in effect but the storm is moving out of the area for now. Houston Galveston metro area: The Houston metropolitan area remains in shambles because of flooding caused by now tropical storm Harvey The official amount of rescues is of 2000. However the number of unofficial rescues is thought to be much higher as many private citizens took their own private boats and rescued a number of people from their flooded homes. All of Harris countys bayous and creeks have overflowed causing most of the most catastrophic flooding The current amount of rainfall in the area is around 25-30 inches. Luckily there is currently dry air in the area meaning at least today Houston should see less rain than other days. The total rainfall through wednesday all depends of Harvey's track. If it tracks to the right of houston it will "only receive 15-20 inches. If it tracks to the left the Houston area could get another 25-30 inches. If it tracks to the left houston will also receive the brunt of the tropical storm winds. The tornado watch is still in effect as Harris county is currently at Torcon 6 Almost all highways and interstates in the houston rings are still blocked so venturing out remains very dangerous. Even if the conservative estimates become true the flooding risk is still extreme. There has also been a mandatory evacuation order for many residents of fort bend county as the brazos river continues to rise. This rise might lead to levee failure and catastrophic flooding in the sugar land area. If your house floods the Us coast guard has recommended to not go into the attic. Unless you have an ax that will help you break through the roof. If you are stranded mark the roof of your house to let rescuers know you are there. They either do that or risk even worse fooding in the city. Well, 2 of my friends live in these areas. They are both having to stay in their second floor.
