Katy Perry Rise vs Witness

Does anyone remember Katy releasing Rise back in august 2016, it was beautifully done in my opinion and pretty successful, and it was something more Katy then Witness is. Last august I expected her entire album to be like the Rise single, however after all this time we got something different entirely (which I still like a lot)

Now my theory is that Katy really switched around the entire album after Hillary lost in November. Katy tried to be political and woke and did it in a pretty short time, which lead to a messy lacklustre era in the GP eyes. Maybe the album was originally supposed to be more like old Katy, and similar to the single Rise, but she was upset about the results of the election and tried to be all political instead

We're blaming Witness flopping on Trump now :selena:

Rise is political music done right. (At least in Katy's case it works). Mature lyrics/themes are what would have sold her era, not this "swish swish trash"

Oh I thought this was gonna be about how Rise and Witness the song were made  together at the same time, cause they were. Rise is better than everything on Witness.

I think she just expected a different reaction, if Hillary did win maybe the album would have been accepted more. She didn't have enough material to overhaul it. She included Witness that leaked like a year before the album, Rise is on the Japanese edition which is also pretty old now, Clearly Swish Swish and Chained To The Rhythm were there since the start and the only song that she teased throughout the months which wasn't included was the "normalize" one which maybe was political.

Rise sounds like it could fit on Witness to me. Plus didn't the demo for Witness leak not that far from Rise's release? :oprah:

I think the sound and theme of Witness stayed the same throughout its creation.

Was Rise successful though? :duck:

Guys, don't overthink it. Witness is not a very good album, nor appeals to the public, and it flopped. Simple.

Nothing of hers is good after Teenage Dream, simply because she is doing the same thing. She is not an artist but a product of the industry. When she was new she was commercial yet fun and fresh.

Now she is just boring, ridiculous and shallow simply because she never offered something really new or meaningful and she has also lost the "new teen act" factor.

honestly, Rise and Witness demo had me ready for some really mature katy music but, as usual, i was met with "spread like a buffet!!" and "swish swish bish!!!" :nails:

Witness is not an overall good album, but it has some very, very beatiful song. And even some BOPS.

It flopped simply because people are expecting her to do the same as Teenage Dream, but as an artist she evolves, and she discovers new themes and genres.

What I don't get from Witness are the single choices and the fact that it's not really cohesive imo. That's what lacking, cohesivness. Like, cttr really grew on me and it was fresh and disco, but than Bon Appetit reaaaally took a hundred listenings to be appreciated.

So, I don't know, I think this was all rushed too.
