The chances of observing a total solar eclipse from your backyard are very rare; Totality exists only along a narrow path on Earth’s surface. The path of totality of this year's eclipse is different. This is a map showing the path this year: http://imgur.com/CnpnPoX And here's a map of the 2024 path: http://imgur.com/vu3q2wZ The only place where both eclipses will have a path of totality through is southeastern Missouri, and even then it isn't the exact same spot in southeastern Missouri. This eclipse didn't go through everyone's city/town either but tons of people travelled to places that had totality.
