Put up or shut up. good day sir Well, I appreciate you taking the effort to find me those receipts.i just wanted to let you know that I would never pay you the same respects. I would never take that much effort to satisfy another person. Just my personal preference though. I am free to do what I please, and if you don't like it then you may leave. The fact that they are censoring history just because they 'don't like it' is so disgusting. OH GOD please They are literally moving the statues to a museum WITHIN the University literally a few feet away. --------------------------------------------------------- Y'all should try reading the articles for once. The university moved a statue of former Confederate President Jefferson Davis from its perch near the campus clock tower to a history museum in 2015. Fenves now says statues of Lee, Confederate Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston and Confederate Postmaster General John H. Reagan, which were in the same area as Davis, also will be moved to the Brisco Center for American History on campus. ▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀
tifffany 373
You don't erect monuments in public places to traitors of the country. The Confederacy was TREASONOUS. It was unprecedented for the US to be so lenient with the enemy but they wanted to reunite the country as quickly as possible so they allowed Confederates to rejoin society and regain control of southern governments (hello, Jim Crow). The Confederacy was only portrayed as an honorable and patriotic cause by the Confederates after they lost the war and were allowed to write their own history. It's called the Lost Cause of the South, an intellectual movement after the war that downplayed the role of slavery and extolled the Confederacy. Although it's lost much of its support in academia, it continues to influence Southerners into believing there's honor in the KKK/Confederacy/etc. It's bizarre that an entity that threatened to collapse the nation is respected by many Americans (and, apparently, Mr. Trump). No one talks about it, no one makes any reference to it etc etc There is not a single phisical remnant of the nazi regime in germany. Now I don't think that it 100% healthy either but don't make up facts just to fit them into your narrative. Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always. You will find no statue of Adolf Hitler or any other important Nazi here in Germany - with the exception of statues in museums or other public exhibitions! Do yourself a favour and STOP talking about German history or the way Germany is remembering the Nazi dictatorship or WWII, because you seem to have absolutely no clue what you are talking about! Thank you. MAKE LOVE NOT WAR
StressedOut 661
LOL I thought the thread was so many pages because of a civil discussion, and not someone trolling. Anyway, as a POC that attends The University of Texas at Austin, I'm really glad that they moved these statues so promptly. I am also glad that I can go to the museum on campus to see the statues, if I wish to do so.

There are plenty of so called "war memorials" here in Germany, to remember all of the victims of WWII and that such a horrendous war should never ever happen again. WWII and Nazi Germany is actually no taboo here in Germany. We learn so much about the darkest part of the German history in school. You can see so many interesting documentations and films on German TV about Nazi Germany and WWII. Moreover there are so many interesting museums and exhibitions dedicated to both subjects. Last but not least I am regularly talking with my family and friends about these topics. No taboo. MAKE LOVE NOT WAR
