Random thoughts on the ARTPOP era.

I just think the album was never gonna sell like crazy :selena: so Gags and her team should have focused more on the singles. Imo it's pretty clear that the clear safe singles were Applause, DWUW (with Xtina or solo please :gaysia:) , Gypsy and MANiCURE. The first 3 especially are all top5 hits tbh (well Applause really is a top5 hit but you get what I mean).

But sometimes I wonder, what would have happened if either Aura, Venus or G.U.Y. would have been the lead single...:bon:

Honestly I can see a version of Aura without the intro kinda doing good tbh, the chorus is the best on the album :classy:

G.U.Y as the first single wouldn't have flopped into oblivion either, it's very Gaga, it's catchy, the bridge and the pre chorus are godly and she could have sugar coated the video and really pushed the Greek gods asthetic.

When it comes to Venus I have no clue, people here love it but I just think it's the loudest weirdest most repetitive out of the three, I know y'all disagree but it's my opinion so hey :poot: For real tho, my brother would occasionally bop to Aura when I would put it on but never to Venus. That is definite proof that Aura > Venus :bon:

And I know this is thread has been done a billion times, but I had to make one too :poot:

I think that Aura would've been the amazing option for the lead single if she wanted to keep the Crazy Gaga image

Do What U Want as a lead would be the best option in terms of sales, but I don't think it would have impact as Aura (idk how to explain it, for example Judas has greater impact than You And I even though You&I sold more)

If ARTPOP Film was released prior to the release of the album it would slay our monster bussies (two weeks b4 the album)

I think in ARTPOP era, people were done with Gaga. Like from 2009-2013, Gaga was on the top. Fame is very unpredictable.

I mean the first 2 singles didn't flop at all so I guess people were still interested in the music unlike with Katy rn. (Not being shady)

The BTW era was the peak of Gaga's weirdness so obvi the era following that would have suffered no matter what, imo :gaycat:

Well the lead single would've done well either way even if she released the title track it still would've done the same. Imho she should've released one of the more hard hitting EDM tracks as the lead to give the album a test drive like MJH, Donatella or even Swine

Aura WAS supposed to be the first single, along with Sexxx Dreams as second, but her team changed it to Applause for an unknown reason.

I personally think Donatella would have been a great single,I know the lyrics are a little outrageous, but the amazing music and beat would've made up for that.

I wouldn't agree with you on this one, people were very much into her. Just remember the media when Abramović method happened and anticipation of the Applause. - 3x platinum + her biggest radio hit

ARTPOP is so much more successful  than we perceive it to be, but the thing is that she hadn't outdone herself

Lead single : DWUW ft Christina Aguilera ( with a flawless video #1 on lock, applause was fine but dwuw would've had  better chances at beating Roar ) :cryga:

Yeah I have a feeling that Aura as the lead would have been the best option. Most critics hated Bad Romance when first released but then it became her signature hit.

I always thought she should have lauched the era by releasing and airing on TV a short film of AURA/VENUS/G.U.Y. It would have generated more buzz than Applause and it would have also given a better indication of the album's sound. Then she could have released Applause as the first commercial single! That would have slayed tbh

Btw many people don't realise that if Applause was released as planned, it would have debured at sth like 2 or 3 (or 1 if we're being over positive :stalkga:)

They had the video and the MTV performance planned for the first week, it would have been so good  I mean just because of hype Applause debuted at 6 then it went 4. It sucks that it leaked tbh

ARTPOP was a phenomenal album (my favorite of Gaga's) in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people. It's a damn shame that an album so chock full of bops was wasted because of poor management, poor execution, and poor timing. I maintain that had Gaga released ARTPOP in 2014/15 instead of 2013, both Do What U Want and Applause would've been #1s (assuming she had new and better management by that point, of course). ARTPOP honestly could've done gone the way of Bad and churned out at least 7-8 singles tbh

Ughhh you're so right I have considered that too :poot: :toofunny:

That would have probably gone #1 tbh.

But hey, Applause also had a chance to debut at #1 if it wasn't rush released so you never know.
