"The administration of President Donald Trump is scoffing at a lawsuit by Twitter users who claim in a federal lawsuit that their constitutional rights are being violated because the president has blocked them from his @realDonaldTrump Twitter handle.

"It would send the First Amendment deep into uncharted waters to hold that a president's choices about whom to follow, and whom to block, on Twitter—a privately run website that, as a central feature of its social-media platform, enables all users to block particular individuals from viewing posts—violate the Constitution." That's part of what Michael Baer, a Justice Department attorney, wrote to the New York federal judge overseeing the lawsuit Friday.

In addition, the Justice Department said the courts are powerless to tell Trump how he can manage his private Twitter handle, which has 35.8 million followers."

this is illegal i'm pretty sure because he's tweets are considered public government property that the public should be allowed to see. if he doesn't let people see it it's obstructing their right to participate in government

Good thing I am smart.

He can't block me if I block him first

Meh. Couldn't they just make a new account though? If they really wanted to see his tweets.

It's simple: He is a human being like everyone else. He can have a Twitter if he wants (like everyone else). He can block people on Twitter (and any other SM) that he doesn't agree with (like everyone else).

It's not that hard people. Just 'cause he's POTUS doesn't mean he has to let everyone see his tweets.

Why are people 'scuse me no-ing all these anti-Trump comments? If he wants to P off trans people, black people, Mexicans, Chinese, GAGA, and more, doesn't he deserve an Excuse Me No?

Couldn't Trump stop going against his bases beliefs of honoring freedom of speech? Couldn't he just not block someone and be an adult? How is he suppose to be the President if he doesn't speak to certain parts of the country?

This would be totally correct if it was for anyone else, even past presidents, but since trump basically just uses twitter to speak about any topic, a lot being important to others, blocking people who could potentially be harmed by his rather uninformed and unapproved tweets (threats to north korea, transgender military ban, etc.) is not good regardless of what they've said about him to be blocked.

You'd be right if he used @/realdonaldtrump for personal stuff or charity things and @/POTUS for actual government issues. In that scenario it'd be alright to block people on @/realdonaldtrump but not @/POTUS

First and foremost, the fact that he still uses his private Twitter handle (@realDonaldTrump) and not the official archived Potus 45 one is a constitutional violation. Any and all tweets should come from his official Presidential twitter, as he is currently tweeting as the leader of the free world, not as a private citizen.

Just like how 75% of the country, whom didn't vote for him, shouldn't have to follow his policies. We'll just block him and do our own thing. That's actually genius! :excited2:

Yes but I was speaking on the point of it being 'illegal' It's not like he's stopping them from actually being able to see his tweets...
