Well, as strange as it may sound, I'm not sure they released it for people to like it or believing it would be a hit. Actually, I saw a Jennifer Lawrence interview earlier today where she states they were surprised by the early critical acclaim the film got when it premiered.

I believe it was actually part of Aronofsky's plan to make a movie hated at its release, and hopefully appreciated in the future. That's how pretentious the guy and his work are, and again I say that in a very loving and full of admiration way.

This was in my opinion a masterpiece. It's not for mainstream audiences because it's basically all one big metaphor art piece. Everyone was saying how shocking it is and they are not wrong I was floored by this film, I was physically breathless when it had ended. Among the best films of the year for me.

The Emoji movie did well at the box office and was hated by critics but 'enjoyed' by the public, which film do you think will be more important 10 years from now to study. Box Office means nothing about the quality of a film.

I know, I know.

It's a controversial movie after all.

It kinda reads that way when you see it unprepared, but once you try to think about all the symbols and possible meanings, everything becomes very obvious.

I had heard a lot about the meaning of the film beforehand, so halfway through the movie I pretty much understood what was the point Aronofsky was trying to make (it can even seem too obvious and cliché once you get it), but I get why some people would just take it as a succession of WTF moments that ultimately don't make any sense.

But if you see it with a really open mind, and if you know your fundamentals when it comes to religion and the Bible, you should be fine.

Omg it sounds like I need to know a lot beforehand before I watch this movie.

What must I know before watching the film? I don't want my first watch experience to be ruined.
