Sure, Angel was cursed with a soul, but he then chose to find redemption, even without her in his life. Because he also wasn't being a good guardian to Dawn prior to that right? And i cant deal with counterarguments like this like it's supposed to belittle the fact that Spike actively decided to get a soul. He did it for love and a desire to be better. Sure not for the world but it's still to be a better being all while being aware how Angel is tormented by having a soul so no. It's still a better scenario. He chose to have a soul even though he knew how much it ruined Angel. I think that was his moment of true redemption. Where we as an audience, and Buffy as well knew that he had truly changed and it had nothing to do with the chip or any other force. The real question is, in their last scene together when Buffy says, "I love you" and he says, "No you don't, but thanks for saying it." Did she really mean it? ⚯͛

Angel actively gave up being human so that he could protect innocents and "avoid" Buffy dying. Not to mention he signed away the Shanshu Prophecy as well all in hopes of bringing down Wolfram & Hart. While Spike is a hero, yes, his goals were selfish, whereas, Angels were not. And yes, he did protect Dawn, true. But again, he did that simply for Buffy. Let's not forget the fact he then tried to rape Buffy. Buffy even calls him out on the fact that regardless of his feelings for her (pre-soul), he was still bad. This happened when Riley returned and said "He's a monster, or have you forgotten?". He was harvesting demon eggs to sell on the black market. 1 minute ago, GypsyBabe said:

To be fair, I didn't watch Angel because I didn't like it sooooo... Spike was selfish, but thats what makes him so human in a way. God this show is so legit, I don't even know what to say. I've been waiting for Buffy people to talk too for so long. ⚯͛
GoldenPonyboy 2,396
I would not be the same person today if it wasn't for that show. I basically grew up with buffy, she was like a mom to me. and to a degree she made me stonger and inspired me in so many ways
DeanWinchester 41,390
I'm also extremely happy Faith redeemed herself Willow/Kennedy was completely unnecessary Anya deserved better Fred deserved better but also Illyria was beyond awesome and the below quote is one of my favorites within the entire continuity Funny thing about black and white. You mix it together and you get grey. And it doesn't matter how much white you try and put back in, you're never gonna get anything but grey. GypsyBabe 22,836
So I think that when I was young, I loved Angel because he seemed like the perfect "idea" of a boyfriend. Handsome, devoted. But he can also be kind of one dimensional on Buffy (not including the show Angel where he had more storylines etc). Spike was never one dimensional. I love them both though. ⚯͛

I have a soft spot for villains who redeem themselves especially if they met their doom doing it. and yes it was stupid but quite within the realms of possibility. The potentials were scared and they felt that the one leader they were supposed to look up to failed and here comes an alternative (Faith) so it's quite understandable why they would do that. As Faith pointed out though, Buffy was still the OG Flyin' like a 1000 Doves

The show is literally the only thing that has kept me mentally together over the years. 2 minutes ago, DeanWinchester said: I'm also extremely happy Faith redeemed herself Willow/Kennedy was completely unnecessary Anya deserved better Fred deserved better but also Illyria was beyond awesome and the below quote is one of my favorites within the entire continuity Faith was probably my favorite character from both shows. I related to her a lot, and the struggle she went through (not killing people, just internal struggles). Kennedy was the ****ing worst. Anya's character was given literally nothing to do in Season 7 (which is by far, the worst written season) Fred As much as it still makes me cry when she passes, goddamn Joss for doing it that way. Absolutely beautiful and tragic. Illyria was amazing, and highly under utilized. You definitely need to watch Angel then. Angel became a significantly deeper character in his own show.
