"Criminal proceedings have been started against the middle-aged men for using symbols from a banned organisation.

The pair have been released on bail of €500 (£450; $600) each.

Germany has strict laws on hate speech and symbols linked to Hitler and the Nazis.

The men - aged 36 and 49 - could face a fine or a prison sentence of up to three years, according to police.

The same charges are most commonly used to prosecute members of the far right.

A police spokeswoman told AFP news agency that the men could leave the country during the investigation and that if a fine is handed down, the bail money they had already paid would probably cover it.

The visitors were seen taking pictures of each other with their mobile phones outside the Reichstag building, which houses the German parliament."

People are so dumb :madge:

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Maybe if it were a bunch of edgy teens but these were middle aged grown men, who are fully aware of their actions

No. I think it's too much too. I think context is important. Are they actually in a hate group? Are they criminals? These are stupid tourists, they should get some sort of fine and maybe be banned from the country for whatever time they deem fit, but prison? Seems excessive to me.

This. Also, I think the use of iconograhpy(?) shouldn't be banned. What's literally the worst scenario that could happen from making that salute? Piss off?...

When you go to a foreign country, learn about the laws and abide by them. Even if it was legal, what would possess them to do a, "Heil H*tler," sign in public, in GERMANY smh. :emma:

That's disgusting.

I am sick of those people. Both nazi in germany and also other south european countries which have nazi history, where people are litteraly proud of being nazi supporters

No.  I mean really a prison sentence for making a salute and taking a photo? Its a bit extreme

But I applaud to the Germany! They admit their history and do needed stuff against it obviously and don't suppoort that trash. Unlike other countries where government indirectly supports that kinda behavior.
