I think she was commenting on the situation at that point in time.

Like we can get so caught up in the social media that we actually forget to focus on what's in front of us.

While people are busy tweeting/posting things about the show, they forgot that they were supposed to be enjoying it. If it were me, I would take a few pics for memories and watch her perform her heart out.

Yes, I understand that but the JWT wasnt the first time she dissed it, she dissed it in many interviews etc...

absolutely, but in the end people are gonna do what they want, they payed the show so they can be on their phones all the time(waste their money and memories) if they want and thats their problem and business

If you guys actually paid attention to the Perfect Illusion promo talk on every radio station you know she isn't contradicting herself. She said she uses social media but feel like everything there are filtered and lack real human connection. It's kinda like how we all only post the most interesting sides on our social media page, people always think that others live a better life because the others only post about the good stuff, fact is everyone has their ups and downs. Gaga has always used social media to share the less glamorous side of her life, drunk tweets, shady tweets etc. She is therefore not contradicting herself because she does hate a certain part of social media but still enjoy part of it. I personally think that people nowadays try too hard to brag about how cool their life is by posting on social media too but I still use it to communicate with people and use it in my own terms.

I think she's just against the idea of living your life through it. Actually, her presence on social media isn't contradictory, it's informative. She's lived her life and built herself from these highly doctored looks at her life. People say she's so different now than she used to be but I doubt it. I think she's just more candid now after only serving a heavily curated form of her life, the fame and glamorous parts, to the world for many years. Even her relationship with Taylor as we know it is only informed by what we know from her social media and yet here we are wishing she was with him again because they're apparently perfect? Of course they were, we only saw perfect.

 

To me, no other person is in a better place to critique social media than she is as she's experienced both the best and absolute worst of it. She understands it very well and will still use even though she has some criticisms to lob at it, but not many people can say they're in a better place to make those claims than she is.

 

sidenote: why anyone goes to a concert to record it is beyond me. You can't relive a moment, that's what makes the moment so special so love it and live it. My two cents, though.

Gaga goes to concerts. Have we ever seen her post a photo/vid about it? No. She's saying to enjoy the moment. No  hypocrisy here.

Sure she used social media to her advantage during her career but the woman was performing all the time from the start, working super hard. She's saying to not just rely on an online following if you want to achieve something. A fan that saw you in a cafe and was wowed by your performance is perhaps more valuable than someone who thinks you make pretty pictures.

I dont know why i feel like most of the fans from here doesn't understand Gaga whenever she tries to explain something, she doesn't hate social media, she just doesn't like the negativity from it, and of course she feels kinda bothered when she sees that most of the people who got a ticket to her show just focus on their phones and not on her show, let's just stop making Gaga a liar when we don't even understand what she's trying to say

...................I think she's more calling out the negatives of social media. Like her so-called fans sending death threats to other celebrities, the constant pitting one against another/stan wars, and people's inability to see her as anything other than a god. Sure, she can be salty about people caught up with recording her shows instead of enjoying them, but that's only a portion of it altogether. I think she's just generally ashamed of how this fanbase can behave at times, and I wouldn't blame her. It's embarrassing.

there is a difference between casual social media usage and a sea of people watching a live concert through the back of their phone screen and annoying the rest of the audience by holding phones above their heads.
