Gagadonna 10,801
Hello fellows, I was reading @Melodrama's post about Katy Perry's alleged downfall and I told myself "so much negativity in here", so I popped up with the idea of reminding fans of how brilliant Gaga's career has been since the end of ARTPOP, and why her return to Pop Music has been particularly successful. After ARTPOP, it was uncertain where Gaga was heading for. We all know she lost the GP's interest and even that of some fans, the support of the media, and more gravely, her self-confidence and self-esteem. Fortunately, she was lucky enough to find comfort in her old friend Tony Benett who eventually restored her faith in her music. This is where her slow, yet certain career rebirth starts. 1) Cheek to Cheek, Til It Happens To You, and AHS: Hotel In 2014, Gaga and Tony released "Cheek to Cheek" which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, earning Gaga her third consecutive number one album. The album received many positive reviews and had Gaga and Tony win a Grammy Award in 2015, Gaga's first Grammy Award since 2011. The album was massively promoted with TV performances and a tour which allowed Gaga to showcase her incredible vocal skills to all generations. Beside the promotion of her collaborative album, she delivered in 2015 one of the best performances of her career - if not the best - at the Oscars with a breathtaking, career-redefining, hugely praised tribute to "The Sound of Music." For many, this performance means her media rebirth as not only fans, but media and people in general were stanning the outstanding performance. Moreover, Gaga's vocal skills impressively improved during that era as her performances of "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" and "La Vie en Rose" showed it. Along with Cheek to Cheek, Gaga released her ballad "Til It Happens To You" which was massively praised by critics and the GP as well. The song received an Oscar nomination and was performed in 2016 at the ceremony. The performance was once again hugely praised and left many to tears. She also performed the song at Billboard Live as she was named Woman of the Year by the magazine. Apart from singing, she debuted her acting career as The Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel which had her win a Golden Globe. The show was thrilling not only for AHS fans, but showed monsters Gaga's darkest, sexiest, and most exciting side of hers through incredible visuals, outfits, and bloody orgies. 2) National Anthem Performance, David Bowie Tribute, and AHS: Roanoke In 2016, Gaga performed the US national anthem at SuperBowl 50. The performance was so positively received that it was called by many as the best performance of the national anthem at SuperBowl since Whitney Houston. Later, she performed a controversial tribute to her late idol David Bowie in partnership with Intel. She also featured as a second character in AHS sixth season Roanoke. She was also honored at the Jane Ortner Education Award by The Grammy Museum, with the Artist Award, which recognizes artists who have demonstrated passion and dedication to education through the arts. The hype for LG5 was becoming more and more intense. 3) Joanne, The SuperBowl Halftime Show, and the Joanne World Tour In september, she released the lead single of her fifth album, "Perfect Illusion." The song topped the charts in France and Spain and hit the top 15 in the US and Australia. The song received mixed to positive reviews. The music video became Vevo certified in July 2017. The next month, Gaga released her fifth album "Joanne" which became Gaga's fourth number one album in the US. The album received generally favorable reviews from critics and its worldwide sales are about to hit 1.400.000 equivalent units. Joanne is considered by fans to be Gaga's most intimate, laid back, and authentic album to date. Thanks to "Joanne" sales, Gaga has become the third most selling female artist in the US of this decade. In November, Gaga released the second single off "Joanne", the beautiful, country-influenced ballad "Million Reasons." The song was massively promoted during TV shows such as Carpool Karaoke, Victoria Secret's Show, the AMA, X Factor UK, etc. After its SuperBowl performance, the song peaked at number 4 on Billboard top 100, becoming Gaga's 14th top-10 single in the US. The music video was watched more than 73.000.000 times, whereas the audio was watched more than 62.800.000 times. The song was massively acclaimed by fans, non-fans, and critics. Thanks to "Million Reasons", Gaga has been one of the three only female artists to score a solo top 10 single on Billboard Hot 100 this year. In February, Gaga delivered an outstanding, breathtaking, hugely acclaimed performance of her greatest hits at the SuperBowl Halftime show. The show was the most watched and most tweeted about show of all SuperBowl halftime show history, and it was named the best halftime show by NFL since Michael Jackson. Also, in the following week, Gaga sold over 485K records in the US, and all her studio albums re-entered that week's Billboard top 200. Also, she earned 6 Emmy nominations for her halftime show. Last but not least, she sang with Metallica at the Grammys and delivered an impressive performance of "Moth Into Flame." In April, Gaga performed her biggest hit singles alongside fan-favourites at Coachella as one of the main headliners. During the first night, she premiered her R&B-influenced new song "The Cure" as a stand-alone single. "The Cure" reached the top 10 of the record charts in Australia, France, Hungary, Scotland, Slovakia, Spain and Venezuela, as well as the top 20 in Czech Republic, Slovakia, United Kingdom, Lebanon, Latvia and Malaysia. It also reached the top 40 in the United States. The song was Gaga's fastest song to become a Spotify hit as it quickly entered many playlists on the music platform service. In spite of its lack of promotion, the song showed Gaga's potential as a hitmaker and proved that non-fans are still interested in her. On August 1st, Gaga started the Joanne World Tour in Vancouver. Like many other venues of the American leg, the show was sold-out. The tour appears to be one of her greatest tour ever since The Monster Ball. The setlist is epic, including Joanne songs, her greatest hits alongside fan-favourites. The stage is designed so that everybody can make the most of the show, the visuals were amazingly dark, and Gaga's vocals were just breathtaking. It just feels so good to see how strong, wise, mature, professional, and confident she has grown since ARTPOP. You can see she is in a way better place now, and that she loves what she is doing (I won't use a picture of the show to avoid spoilers). 5) Soon... According to Billboard, chances are high Gaga gets nominated at The Grammy Awards 2018 for "Joanne" and "Million Reasons." Furthermore, Gaga recently told Billboard that she has been writing new music, we may thus expect new music to be on its way. Finally, A Star Is Born featuring Gaga will also be released in 2018. It is the first time Stefani is the lead in a movie, but as rumours suggest, we may expect wonders from her. In three years, Gaga has managed to bounce back like no others. She rose like a phoenix from the ashes of ARTPOP and became more than she ever was: a complete artist. She is now recognized as an amazing, unique singer, incredible performer, devoted activist, and talented actress. She has gained back the love of the GP and the media in the US and beyond, and has found a place in the heart of many new fans. But more importantly, she seems to be happier and more confident, which in the end, despite all these accomplishments, is what matters the most. Sky del Blue 2,975
Stop bashing ARTPOP, it's her best album in my opinion and it definately didn't destroy her career in 2013

bobbby 939
Love this retrospective but I wouldn't say it allll contributed positively. Her David Bowie performance (because of Duncan's comments) was probably net negative reputation for her (I personally liked it, and obviously it came from an incredibly passionate place, nuts) and her AHS: Roanoke performance was blink and you missed it and a lot of my friends didn't even know it was her. The Metallica collab really only made a splash because of the tech difficulties. But winning a GG for Hotel, both Oscar performances, C2C, both Super Bowl performances, and Coachella definitely reminded the public that she's hella talented and still a force. Used to be on here as broadwaybobby in TFM era
Earthling 3,692
This post made me tear up a little towards the end Your synopsis of the the last 3 years really put into perspective the sheer tenacity and capability she possesses (even if we been knew). Reading this made me so proud to say I've been a Little Monster ever since that ruffled outfit in the Paparazzi MV snatched my weave back in 2008. Now almost 10 years on look at all she's achieved Truly a legend in the making. *she switched baristas. ☕️
