The Top of the Mountain

A common theme from many detractors of Gaga's current incarnation is that they miss the "drive" of old Gaga.  For roughly 5 years Gaga gave a non stop show.  She was on 24/7, never went outside "out of character", flooded the world with promotion and appearances.   She clawed her way to the top of the pop mountain with relentless drive and determination.

The result of all that was physical and mental breakdown, alcohol and drug dependencies, toxic and broken relationships, and near complete burnout from the  pop industry.

She's been to the top of the mountain and the view sucks.

We all know Gaga is a restless creative,  she wants a long and varied career where she can explore all aspects of her talent in multiple venues.  And she wants to have a life balance that allows her to do that in a healthy way and with love, friendship, and kindness in her life.

Don't deny her that.  It's what every one of us would like to have, after all.

It's sad that many fans don't understand this.

When you're at the top, it brings many consequences, and people will try and bring you back down again.

In my messy era.

If winning a Grammy, or being #1 on Billboard = "the top of the mountain" for you, then ok.

Going from "I'm an ARTISTE!!" with ARTPOP to "Wuts ert lol" with Joanne doesn't seem like a varied career to me, it seems more like putting art on as a hat and then taking it off when something else becomes more convenient.

our favourite indie artist is planting vegetables at the foot of the mountain. if that's what it takes to produce an album like Joanne, i'm totally fine with it.

Eh I see it more as with ARTPOP she wanted to explore art as a nebulous concept, but the art itself was hardly personal. She wanted to make statements about art, not herself. I see Joanne as the opposite of that. She wants to explore herself and find art through that. From what I've heard regarding the interludes she is doing that.

To me both ARTPOP and Joanne are highly personal albums.  ARTPOP is in many ways the culmination of the breakdown.   Aura vividly pleads with her fans to take a look beneath the surface, but many of her fans have answered "not interested."  GUY is about wanting to be in control of her life and career.   Swine is about the toxic relationships.   Dope is about hitting her lowest point and risking losing everything for the mental escape provided by drugs.

Joanne is a about stepping away from "the stuff and distractions," healing and life, the meaning of friendship, and looking inside to really explore the things that make you the way you are and find what is important.

You guys have a very skewed view of art :toofunny:

Art doesn't have to be big and dramatic and crazy. It can be minimal and quiet as well
