Facebook had to shutdown 2 of its most sophisticated AI (Artififical Intelligence) Programs after an experiment caused concerning results

 

Both programs where made to interact with eachother in a negotiating scenario to test their efficiency, adaptability and cleverness

 

What programmers and scientists were not expecting was both programs making their own language (still however a derivative of english) after a short time, making it virtually impossible to understand what they were talking about with eachother

 

However the programmers contrary to reports shut down the programs because there was no advantage to them speaking in an ununderstandable language, not because of fear that the programs were plotting something!

It's actually not as scary as the article makes out, I was listening to a computer scientist explain it.

People think that the AI programs started communicating and conspiring with each other in a language programmers couldn't understand so they freaked out and shut down the program - but that's not really what happened.

Basically they are trying to teach computers language, that we understand, so that computers can communicate with each other to perform particular tasks. The program didn't function as it was intended, as the computers started communicating in a derivative of English that wasn't understandable to humans, so they shut down the program rather than just letting it run indefinitely for no reason at all.

They were trying to get the computers to communicate, it just didn't work as intended so they shut down the program. That's the story. It wasn't that we lost control of the machines and they started to learn language and conspire against the humans, it was more that the computer scientists went "Oh, well this isn't what we wanted - we can't understand them. Lets shut down the program and start again."

In my opinion humanity wastes so much time on Facebook & their privacy policies are horrible and not many people are educated on what Facebook Inc. does with that information, they seem so shady as well, with making 3D models off of users pictures for facial recognition, and now these shady AI’s they are developing, who knows what the consequences will be if they are set free in society. I don’t believe they completely shut them down and they are only telling us the minimum.

The consequences ? Do you realize our AIs are still very basics ? Do you realize tons of scientists, researchers and philosophes are working on the ethic of the AIs ?

There is nothing shady about AIs, just read thesis and papers about it and maybe the fear will disappear. And indeed they didn't shut them down, they rebooted them with the option "speak english"

I am very educated in AI and it is not as peachy as you make it seem, while the AI is “basic” now have you heard of Deep Mind? We are capable of developing a self improving AI but I’m not interested in discussing AI, I hate Facebook Inc. & Mark Zuckerberg and they should honestly be shutdown for the better of humanity.
