Yuuri 21,636
As we know, in the Western world there is a shortage of Sperm, one of the two necessary ingredients for life. Here are the likely causes: 1. Weight Overweight and obese men have worse sperm quality than men of healthy weight. Being overweight or obese can also cause hormonal changes that reduce fertility and make men less interested in sex. Men who are very overweight are also more likely to have problems getting an erection. Together, these factors reduce the chances of men who are overweight or obese fathering a child. Being underweight can also reduce a man’s sperm quality and therefore his fertility. More than one-third (35.7 percent) of adults are considered to be obese. More than 1 in 20 (6.3 percent) have extreme obesity. Almost 3 in 4 men (74 percent) are considered to be overweight or obese. 2. Smoking Tobacco has been shown to decrease the number and quality of sperm in male smokers. It can also hurt the antioxidant levels in semen. Antioxidants protect sperm from damage from free radicals, which can affect their motility and ability to fertilize an egg. If a couple is undergoing fertility treatment, poor results during in-vitro fertilization have also been reported when the male partner smokes. There is clear evidence that using marijuana reduces male fertility, too. Marijuana can alter the endocrine system, which regulates reproductive hormones, and lower the man's levels of testosterone (the hormone responsible for sperm production). Marijuana is also toxic to human sperm, reducing motility and fertilization potential. -Dr. Hsieh, director of the Male Fertility and Men's Health Program in U.C. San Diego 3. Alcohol It isn’t just female fertility that’s affected by alcohol. Dr Patrick O’Brien, spokesperson for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, says: “Excessive alcohol lowers testosterone levels and sperm quality and quantity in men. It can also reduce libido, and cause impotence." An international team of scientists analyzed data from nearly 43,000 men in dozens of industrialized countries and found that sperm counts dropped by more than half over nearly four decades." http://www.npr.org/2017/07/31/539517210/sperm-counts-plummet-in-western-men-study-finds Yes couples having children did hit an all time low in 2016, but there are other factors besides choosing to not have child. Many couples in-fact struggle to have child, from falty sperm through Erectile dysfunction in men, and egg quality in women.
