sipthistea 21,099
Nicki Minaj jumped into the scene as an avant garde-haut couture superstar who wasn't afraid of criticism, and always had a statement with her unconventional and provocative work. That was while promoting her masterpieces Pink Friday and Roman Reloaded. As the years went by, she started to abandon her crazy themed costumes and became a more normal-sexy rapper who started to make boring songs like Bed Of Lies and All Things Go, for an album that lacks her pop signature style. So why do you think Nicki left her old self, the Harajuku Barbie persona, to become a "normal" rapper? Discuss
RepentingSinner 2,642
Original style? All that came when she got signed and mainstream. Go listen to the old stuff before Pink Friday. Nicki Minaj raps "Dear Old Nicki, please come back." She did... Kinda.

kabirartfling 9,063
I think it was a trend to be weird and outrageous back in 2011! Everyone wanted to look polarising and different! And i feel from 2012 the new trend of 'being true and natural' started with really benefitted the pop stars...examples would be rihanna in unapologetic era, gaga in ARTPOP era (mostly), katy in prism photoshoots and roar! So naturally nicki joined the train with her neutral era with pink print.....the only outrageous singer/artist was miley but thats only cuz she was heavily basic and neutral all her career before. Edonis 28,950
End of 2012 when The Re-Up didn't sell as much as they thought it would. At that point I was long done as a fan Plus her style was never really avant garde, more just very cartoonish pop. However, she was certainly more fearless in her approach prior to toning it down for good. It's a shame because while she was out there being weird and whatnot (even having strangely familiar outfits to Gaga ) her music was at its best. Then Roman Reloaded happened and...meh. I stopped caring.

HolyFool 782
Unmmm all things go is a great song, idk what u talkin bout. Just cause she doesn't make songs like "boom ba boom boom boom boom ba ba ba boom" (what lyrical genius) doesn't mean she has become boring.
