The OP should have pointed out that Trump was talking specifically about a dangerous and growing gang called MS-13. Members of MS-13 are characterized by tattoos covering the body and also often the face, and by the use of their own sign language. They are notorious for their use of violence and a sub cultural moral code that predominantly consists of merciless revenge and cruel retributions, including, but not limited to forcing Marshall Law-like control of poor neighborhoods, using wives and daughters as retribution by way of kidnapping, raping, and murdering, and also torturing innocent people in communities as a means to obtain power and influence in these communities. This cruelty of the distinguished members of the "Maras" or "Mareros" earned them a path to be recruited by the Sinaloa Cartel battling against Los Zetas in an ongoing drug war in Mexico. Their wide-ranging activities have drawn the attention of the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who have initiated wide-scale raids against known and suspected gang members, arresting hundreds across the country. This gang has existed since the 1980's but has grown momentously in recent years spreading across the United States and existing predominantly in San Francisco, Long Island, NY, Washington D.C., Charlotte, N.C., and Boston, M.A. The gang is known for its gruesome use of torturing it's often innocent subjects, randomly picking people off the street as a means to gain attention and notoriety. So no....Trump is not calling for an overall haul of treating those under arrest violently. He is talking about a merciless gang that hasn't been defeated for decades and has brought an influx of drugs and brutality against innocent people. So why not criticize cops then?
