Holy **** I didn't realise this, I thought it was really her all this time! :wtfga:

I think this was supposed to be the point - the fact that popstars (Gaga in instace) are an impersonal and unreal avatar, popstars are statues and are seen as Gods (also Greek and Roman mythology references here) - the way pop culture works .The album was truly a work of art and very conceptual, but it was not meant for everybody. Also, I think all of these complex meanings and ideas were the ART, and the EDM accesibble sound was the POP.

Completely and absolutely! Her most underrated work by far!

exactly, people often seem to take her saying the phrase ARTPOP literally, even the critics of the album never understood she meant art visuals combined with pop music and it's not hard to grasp but it seems some people take things too literally nowadays. Everyone thought she was gonna make some whacky, alternative, art-pop (the genre) style of music with whacky visuals which is where most of the critique lays. But she even said it multiple times she wanted art to be one with pop, visuals to go with the music that wasn't just promoting sex etc like most people do.

I mean how many times on this forum do we critique others for their visuals not being remotely related to their music/concepts?

I think at least at one point  she wanted to be a little innovative in terms of music (the fact that she wanted to release Art songs and Pop song separately). Putting art into pop is a very interesting phrase. Personally I think it was her reaction to having a lot of pressure, her wish for the album to be both commercial/ pop/ accessible, and still innovative - and I think she dealt a lot with those though all of her career. And about the critics, I don't even think the majority of them realized the conceptual complexity of the album.
