The fact that they believe in human rights for lqbt people and women is invalid because women and members of the lgbt community already have all the rights they need to be equal! That's why feminism today isn't relevant anymore. 

And while protestants (christians who take christianity WAY too seriously) will just tell you to pray the gay away muslim extremists will go to gay nightclubs and shoot 50 people. And because christians in America take in up to 76% (including 16% protestants) and muslims only 0.9% it is a BIG PROBLEM.

Yes, thanks to marriage equality LGBT+ people stopped being discriminated and gained all rights needed. Amazing. Seems so weird tho, considering we're in a thread where the issue at hand is transgender people being reduced to a mere number and not being able to join the military. If numbers were that important we'd be discussing why Trump has gone on 38 rounds of golf since Jan 20th.

No, everyone doesn't have equal rights. It's rather ignorant and misinformed of you to believe so. Just because you feel equal in your white, male, middle-class world doesn't mean that it is a reality for everyone else. 

That was one extremist...one. We've had plenty of white Christians in this country killing people for the color of their skin or their sexual orientation. Maybe we should ship all the white Christians off to an island!

None of this is true

Important issues still facing women:

Spoiler

- Inequality in the workplace
- A salary gap
- Contraception isn't covered by certain medical insurances
- Abortion isn't covered by insurance depending on location
- Abortion rights are at risk of being taken away under the current admin.
- Sexual assault isn't taken seriously (to the point where we'll elect a sexual predator as president)
- Sexism is still a rampant social issue and needs to be fought

These are just a handful of broad issues, there's dozens more at least

Important issues still facing LGBT:

- Adoption rights are at risk under the current admin.
- The rights of parents to retain custody of their children is at risk under the current admin.
- The right to a surrogate mother is at risk under the current admin.
- Marriage rights are at risk under the current admin.
- The right to serve on a jury is at risk under the current admin.
- Homophobic attacks still happen
- Giving blood is still illegal in some states unless an LGBT person abstains from sex for a year (experienced this one personally)
- There's no federal law to protect us against discrimination in the work place (also goes for women in some states)
- There's millions of gay kids on the streets who were kicked out by homophobic parents
- Conversion therapy is still legal
- Trans* inmates are sent to the wrong prisons
- Trans* inmates are often ignored when reporting abuse and discrimination
- Businesses can legally turn away LGBT customers
- Suicide rates for gay teenagers are extremely high when compared to heterosexual teens and trans*/gender queer teen suicide rates are demonstrably higher than that.

Again, just a handful of issues. There's dozens more.

Being able to sign a piece of paper and given the ability to file jointly on taxes, see terminally ill SO's, own land together, etc doesn't automatically make every other problem go away  Racial minorities, women, the LGBT+ community, and our cis/het/racial majority allies still have a long way to go before actual equality is achieved.

if you are on some hormone treatment or are going through a transition then i'd understand them not wanting a person like that in the military due to the uncertainty in how those drugs may effect a person under extreme stress like a combat situation. what about people who just identify as trans and dont undergo any hormone treatment or surgery, but want to serve? or someone who is done transitioning and can handle the training and everything  this doesnt make sense. 

like, i dont care if you identify as a male or female, do you identify as a killer? yes? good, get in my army. thats all i need to know. ****, you dont even have to kill to serve on in the field of battle, just sit here and push the buttons that drop the drone strikes.

There is a way to have a controversial opinion without also sounding like an asshole. Just say it, and if people have thoughts that fly in contradiction to yours, reason with them. Whether your opinion is changed or not, that's how self-criticism happens and how we begin to hold our own thoughts to higher standards

Even disregarding the very valid sentiment that America is supposed to be the land of the free and inclusion, this decision doesn't even make sense in a fiscal way. I don't have sources on me right now because I read these this morning and I'm on mobile, but by a generous estimate, transition related costs are only 10% on what the military spent on erectile dysfunction prescriptions in 2014. Transition related costs account for 0.04% of the military healthcare budget. Remember that scandal where the pentagon covered up $125 BILLION in bureaucratic military wastage? This has nothing to do with saving money. Trump is either trying to distract us from something even stupider that he's done or he's trying to put pressure on democrats for the midterm elections by making a polarising issue. Either way, he doesn't care about his country and that's not news.

This is ridiculous. You would've thought that the military would need as many troops as they can gather regardless of their sexual orientation, gender etc. in order to get the job done. At the end of the day they are trained to the same standard as any other troop so why shouldn't they be allowed to go into battle? At least they are trying to make some sort of difference instead of wasting their lives doing absolutely nothing
