Eighteen 5,430
i'm pretty confident that bowie didn't like gaga all that much. i mean that's probably why his son was being a bitch when she did that tribute, it was probably a talked about thing in their family. he probably saw her as unoriginal if you ask me. They met so many times and Gaga even washed her feet, Jones is just so unbelievably over the top and eccentric she just says whatever the **** she wants, she probably likes Gaga one minute and then despises her the next OT: I always thought he never liked her but i'd love to hear the pen pal story, I wonder how it came about and what they spoke about. I'm not saying Gaga is lying but it seems suspect that she chose to discuss this after he had died and he wasn't around to comment or back it up UNLIKE Bowie, Grace Jones has made her feelings very clear for Gaga over the years. That book she did last year, she berated the current pop girls, Gaga included. AND still to this day, I cant believe Gaga washed her feet. It just seems to belittling. You would have crossed his path at some point even if it was after his death, I'm sure (Disregarding that his death was world news so you probably would have heard of him there lol). He had too much of an imprint on artists as far ranging as Lorde and Janelle Monae to Beck and Metallica for you to have not known him. Males were just not that openly flamboyant on stage before he invented Ziggy Stardust. And whether you're gay or not, his career had a profound impact on the LGBT community even despite him later backtracking on being gay. You would definitely know him in at least a cursory capacity. Tony Bennett, sure you may not have known, because while he's fantastic he plays to a very specific crowd of typically older jazz-loving people; that's a bit niche. But Bowie's popularity goes across several generations and genres. I find it impossible to believe you would have never encountered him even on a peripheral level. He just did too much. I mean, that would be like not knowing Curt Cobain or Janis Joplin or Prince. Even if you aren't that familiar with them, you know they at least existed. HairBow 599
I'm still sad to see that Grace Jones doesn't like Gaga. Grace Jones is still a QUEEN though. I still absolutely love her. I would be really disappointed if the Bowie not liking Gaga rumors hold truth to them. I've been a big fan of David Bowie pretty much since I was a baby (it all started with Labyrinth!). I actually started to like/warm up to Gaga because I saw the influences that Bowie had on her ... Man, it's times like this where I feel like I can somewhat relate to Gaga. We're both around the same age (both of us born in 1986), and we both grew up with pretty much the same exact, eclectic taste in music. It makes me sad whenever I hear people or other artists say that Gaga might be "full of it" when she talks about growing up listening to stuff like classic rock, jazz, pop, and heavy metal. I grew up listening to ALL of that stuff myself ... It IS possible to be into several different types of music ... Anyway, if I could pick ONE thing to love about Lady Gaga, it's that she's introduced a lot of young people to some great music. Cheek To Cheek alone is proof of that. GypsyBabe 22,836
Gaga has always been very polarizing to people, and is oftentimes misunderstood (even within her fan base sometimes), but it's sad to think that one of her greatest inspirations didn't respect her musically. ⚯͛

Personally, I would have told her to go **** herself and run a bath if she wants her feet washed.
venusxillusion 184
I'm sure Grace Jones and David Bowie were threatened/jealous of Gaga. There she was, 24 years old, with all the creativity and artistry they had....but with added musical talent. Gaga can write, compose and sing like no other and they were SHOOK. Those old artists never had huge commercial success, but Gaga was able to merge pop and art and have it sell millions around the world. Gaga is the artist they wish they were
