When are the official Billboard numbers released? In the US it's Thursday, but it seems to be different in the UK.

Charts are updated every Sunday at 7:15pm (yes, I timed it - don't know why they don't make it bang on the dot of seven). I believe it used to be on a Monday, but one week, it was uploaded a day early and its continued that way ever since. It's not called Billboard, though, just UK Official Singles/Albums Chart.

the UK has a billboard? I thought their office there was closed down or something

I'm pretty knowledgeable on the US charts, but still a noob on the UK charts :smh:

Awesome... Thank you! Is there a URL to check official singles/albums chart? I've just been using wikipedia, but that won't get updated until days later sometimes and I'm really impatient

Or just type "uk singles/album chart" - just the same as you'd do for any other country. I'm not sure what your time zone is in America,to coincide with ours, though. It might be past midnight for you. But yeah, Wikipedia's a good way to get an overall look at our music tastes over the years. It's shocking how easy it is for a novelty song to get #1 here!

You're amazing! Thank you   Following Ellie has gotten me more interested in the UK charts. I'll listen to songs that are popolular there since a lot of them end up becoming big here in the US much later on.

Yes, America used to be ahead of the UK when it came to music, but now it's the complete opposite. Songs take so long to sink into America's huge population and when they're hits, they're 5+ weeks at #1 hits. It takes so long for a song to become a hit that by the time it eventually does, it's old news in the rest of the world. Gaga is such a global artist, however, that her singles peak at pretty much the same time in America as they do elsewhere, though. Hearing who's the new #1 in America, it's such a feeling of deja vu, like "that old song?" So, yes, looking at foreign charts is a great way to get a preview of lots of new music and predict what will be future hits in America. Let's put it this way - Adele's Someone Like You went to #1 in the UK in 20 February 2011. It didn't go to #1 in the US until 17 September 2011. That's how much of a difference it can be at times. It was at this moment that I researched how different the charts are over there. Back then, I assumed it would never go to #1 because it was released months ago and flopped and then, out the blue, it was at #1. Slow burning hits are a very rare phenomenon over here. Because music is so disposible in the UK now and everyone's always hungry for new tracks, there's never a dull moment in our charts.
