Bieber is actually much more a "s-x object" than any female singer, because he's more dependent on members of the opposite s-x who drool over him for his fanbase. Pop girls have a more diverse fanbase, so they don't just sing sappy love songs for teenage boys.

Hahaha! That's quite an astute observation, actually.

But Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Robbie Williams, and Justin Timberlake all started out with screaming teen girl fans.

True. don't forget One Direction!

I mean even though a lot of us find Gaga attractive, that is definitely NOT what lured us into becoming fans first. It was her music. But for JB it definitely wasnt his music. He had that "aww look at that kid singing. He's so cute" factor. (that was in the perspective of a pre-teen girl not me )

WHYB.... where have you been?

It just popped up out of nowhere! :wtf:

It's in #10 in iTunes, but #5 in radio. It's placing in Billboard will likely be the same next week.

Justin Bieber is nothing like the singers you listed. The Beatles especially had universal popularity.

BB Hot 100 calculations for the week based on 6 days of itunes bars, current airplay and a streaming estimate

#position, sales (000's) + airplay (A.I. millions) + streaming (20Ks) = points*, artist, song, (change on Hot 100)

#1 274 + 175 + 48 = 358 Carly Rae Jepsen CMM (=)

#2 234 + 171 + 38 = 320 Maroon 5 Payphone ft. Khalifa (+1)

#3 180 + 196 + 43 = 311 Gotye STIUTK ft Kimbra (-1)

#4 236 + 83 + 16 = 229 Katy Perry WA (=)

#5 114 + 112 + 36 = 196 One Direction WMYB (+1)

#6 91 + 119 + 40 = 192 Fun. WAY ft. Monae (-1)

#7 124 + 119 + 17 = 189 Rihanna WHYB (+1)

#8 159 + 72 + 32 = 188 Ellie Goulding Lights (+4)

#9 106 + 106 + 33 = 183 Nicki Minaj Starships (-2)

#10 133 + 87 + 22 = 174 Usher Scream (+1)

#11 127 + 74 + 34 = 172 Justin Bieber Boyfriend (-1)

#12 85 + 99 + 30 = 162 Flo Rida WO ft Sia (-3)

#13 65 + 105 + 27 = 151 The Wanted GYC (=)

#14 132 + 59 + 18 = 147 David Guetta + Sia Titanium (+1)

#15 122 + 61 + 14 = 139 Pitbull BIT (-1)

#16 80 + 52 + 31 = 122 Kanye West Mercy (+3)

#17 91 + 64 + 15 = 122 Luke Bryan DOY (-1)

#18 65 + 67 + 24 = 118 Train DB (-1)

#19 85 + 61 + 14 = 116 Karmin Brokenhearted (-1)

#20 75 + 59 + 13 = 106 Eric Church Springsteen (=)

*points = 62% x sales/K + 80% x airplay (A.I. millions) + 5% x on demand streaming/K

Payphone replacing STIUTK at #2

Wide Awake is still a long way short of breaking into the top 3.

Very close for positions #6-#8; WHYB is benefiting from the extended remix and airplay rise.

Lights sales slipped a little on itunes vs earlier in the week but still a good Hot 100 gain.

Scream replacing Boyfriend at #10

Approx weekly sales for Gaga: PF 7.2K, TEOG 6.8K, BTW 6.3K, JD 6.0K, Y+I 5.6K, BR 5.4K

Justin Bieber is nothing like the singers you listed. The Beatles especially had universal popularity.

I remember Justin Timberlake doing a benefit concert in Toronto and being booed about 2002, for the same sorts of reasons Bieber is despised almost universally by hetero males.

Frank Sinatra was once called the most hated man in WWII by soldiers because he had girls screaming for him back home while they were off fighting. His career had a dip following its teen girl idol phase, before he went on to become a legend.

The Beatles only specialized in songs like "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" for about a year and they were rock, so they had a better image.

Sinatra and the Beatles had great talent, the dip they suffered was only from the initial loss of fangirl appeal.

Justin Timberlake is what Bieber wants to be: lucky enough to find a sound and own it.

Speaking of the two, there was a article about them two days ago on MTV.

kinda of liking the new maroon song that is climbing up the charts and replacing payphone. but the song sounds similar to two old songs.

maroon 5, "one more night"

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=7CPYoGtI75Q

ace of base, "all that she wants"

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=8OB28fTKSds

manu chao, "me gustas tu"

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=NtojE2tYi0c

i know gaga couldn't get away with this....nothing against maroon 5 though, i love them.

I don't think Bieber will top Timberlake's success on music, let's recall the FutureSex/LoveSounds album:

Sexy Back: #1 on BB hot 100

My Love: #1 on BB hot 100

What comes around, goes around: #1 on BB hot 100

LoveStoned: #17 on BB hot 100

Until the end of time: #17 on BB hot 100

Summer Love: #6 on BB hot 100

FS/LS and Justified (his albums) have both sold more than 10 million copies WW.

Indeed, I was thinking that Timberlake had a competitive edge since he's established, more recognizable, and a wider range in audiences.

Didn't Timberlake's band debut over 2 million the same year Britney's Oops sold over a million?

The difference is that Bieber can't match Gaga, Swift, or Adele.
