It's getting worse

Most people return to his odd collaboration with Lady Gaga as one of the industry’s most damning examples of a fellow artist providing a platform for an abuser. Their 2013 song “Do What U Want”—with its suggestive refrain “Do what you want, what you want with my body”—reached no. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, but its racy music video (directed by another problematic celebrity in photographer Terry Richardson) was pulled because, according to TMZ, “[Gaga] feared blow back since her co-star was once on trial for kiddie **** and her director is in a swirl of controversy over allegedly sexually assaulting or harassing his models.” Gaga and R. Kelly ultimately did turn in a messy performance at the 2013 American Music Awards, parodying Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky’s Oval Office encounter.

Gaga is an easy target because their song is the most memorable, but let’s also not forget that after “Do What U Want,” Kelly was featured on singles by Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, Kid Ink, and fellow Chicagoan Chance the Rapper. His 2015 album The Buffet also featured guest appearances from Ty Dolla Sign, Lil Wayne, Jeremih, Jhené Aiko, and Tinashe.

“Why does Lady Gaga, who champions sexual empowerment for women and gay rights, record with him in 2013 a big hit single, film a video that she later killed after people began writing about Kelly again?” DeRogatis said in a Slate interview Monday. “But she appears with him on ‘Saturday Night Live’ and (on the American Music Awards) pretends to fellate him at the desk of the Oval Office in a twisted sort of Monica Lewinsky-Bill Clinton skit. … The history’s out there, the reporting’s out there, and people should be aware of it.”

REALITY

I thought she was suppose to be Marilyn Monroe in that live performance :oprah:

Either way, I think it's going to make Gaga look bad, especially after a song called "Do What U Want", but I think the important thing is to focus on the story and the abused women involved instead of bringing up past collabs. Like, what is this going to do for anyone? This doesn't solve the issue and if anything, it'll bring other people involved that don't need to be involved.

Gaga is just an easy target.  But not only that, she was going through turmoil professionally, physically, mentally and emotionally during this time (battling with Troy and Interscope, recovering from her hip and Lupus flareups, PTSD from rape, drug/alcohol addiction, bulimia, depression, anxiety, pressures to be thin), so a lot of the decisions she made weren't made with a clear mind.  She should not be criticized for this, like how Britney shouldn't be criticized for her breakdown.

Besides, Gaga is a very forgiving, empathetic person.  She showed forgiveness towards R. Kelly, that he can be sexual and sexy without being a predator.  She sees the good in everyone and tried to show this through her art.

River

It's not getting worst, it's just the beginning, Gaga made a mistake, deal with it, her only way to make a statement is to remove R.Kelly from all the platforms and replace it with the solo or xtina version..

But let's not forget that Whitney Houston did a collab with him in 2012! a singer that also sang about women empowerment and against women abuse.. (did you notice that she's not listed in the article?)

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
