I'm telling you, streaming is going to ruin music. It seems as though the new generation who listens to music via streaming services do not know older artists and classics, they subscribe to a playlist and eat up whatever they are fed. I remember being a kid, my first music experience were with my parents CD's so I would listen to the classics before even hearing current stuff. Now, kid's first experience with music is managed by record label execs who pay spotify to have a song in their hit list.

The same thing has been said with radio and MTV. People are gonna listen to whatever they want at the end of the day.

It always seems to be a cycle

late 90's/very early 2000's were very dance/pop

early 2000's/mid 2000's were rock/acoustic

mid 2000's/late 2000's were RnB/Hip Hop

late 2000's/early 2010's were dance pop

early 2010's/mid 2010's were rock/acoustic

Mid 2010's to now - Rnb/Hip Hop

This means pop's revival should come in 2018  only a few more months sistrens

I'd say it depends on where ur from because in the 80s dance and electronic music was at it's most predominant thanks to the invention of electric drums and Yamaha keyboards which EVERYONE was using from Whitney and Kylie to a-ha and even Phil Collins and Madonna.

For example I can say the UK trends were

90s; hip-hop with a touch of R&B (and one or two minor house music hits after it was invented and became more popular)

00s: R&B lite but mostly rock/rock-pop

10s: EDM for sure, R&B and hip-hop is creeping back in but the predominant genre is still EDM because dance and house is still huge in the uk plus electro-pop
