Of course, I'm just kidding. I enjoy hip-hop but it's nowhere near my favorite genre so I'm kinda sad about this.

We have two selves. One the world needs us to be, compliant, and the shadow. Ignore it and life is forever suffering.

Report: Hip-Hop/R&B Is The Dominant Genre In The U.S. For The First Time

960x0.jpg?fit=scale

While it is no longer surprising to state that streaming, in general, is altering the music business, certain kinds of music now have power like never before because of this new model.

[...]

For the first time since Nielsen started measuring music consumption in the United States, rock is no longer the top genre in terms of overall consumption. Instead, the combined genre of R&B and hip-hop has taken the crown, and while the two styles are fairly close to one another when it comes to percentages, the latter has pulled ahead, and it seems like it will continue to distance itself from the competition in the coming months and years.

Poor gays. Pop divas are over.

Of course. Gaga hasnt dropped LG6.:selena: I'll tell you something, if Gaga decides to drop a modern pop album and does promo, you'll be sure that she dominates the music industry again. TC with no promo is doing really well, especially with her poor streaming. Her sales are high and the radio is decent without promo. A bit of payola and streaming fixes, you'll be listening to Gaga on the radio the whole 2017:selena: BOOKMARK ME when Gaga slays with her new comeback this year. New Aesthetic New Music :selena:

If you actually go out and explore I agree, Apple music is very convinient, I am subsribed to it. I don't know how old you are but I started High School in 2008. I remember having my first job working as a butcher and going out to buy a physical album with my own money and listening to every track in order on a portable CD player. I feel like it is an experience that is lost for people discovering music through streaming. You don't get that when you start with it if that makes any sense, because you just make your own playlist of subsribe to the ones you like for most people. As for radio, I've never really listened to radio. where I'm from we got three country station, one rock and a top 40 one that is 6 months late.

Maybe I'm just getting old and I don't like change idk. I just feel like kids are missing out on a lot of great music. Some of them might have You Outta Know by Alanis Morissette but few have listened to Jagged Little Pill from start to finish. Hope my analogy makes sense. Altho I gotta give credit to Beyoncé with Lemonade. I think people saw what it felt like to listen to an album completely and it contributed to it's success.

I'm only a year younger than you. I get what you're saying though.

For me personally I always just downloaded music either on iTunes or illegally so I don't have that type of connection idk. I feel like a lot of people are like that too.

On Spotify I avoid some of the popular playlists but tbh I just listen to what I like. I have younger family members who do the same. I was actually surprised at the diversity of the music they listen to.

But yes there are people who only listen to what's popular.

Also, hip hop artists have a crazy amount of collab, which fits into the streaming model perfectly. Hip hop also has the habbit of pumping out a lotof singles and mixtapes from outta no where and these are still really siccessful. Since that artists have songs in eacothers library and a massive library of their own, their streaming dominance appears to be much more powerful, but its not

Streaming, views, sales are all inflated these days, especially by the hip hop industry - especially with Tidal and all that junk like selling albums to phone companies to give to customers who sign up for certain things. It has no true reflection of what people who don't stream or use online music services to buy their music are listening to.

Honey, I'm really sorry but the pop girls that will get play on radio are the newer ones. I'm not being rude, I'm just being realistic.

I've been thinking for years how hip-hop is the most innovative genre right now & the only one atm that has potential for social change. Interesting to read this!
