When do you consider an album being too long?

The time length of an album.  What time length would you consider to be too long?  For me, if an album is over 70 minutes (not counting deluxe or rerelease), it can be pretty tiring to get through in one sitting.  Albums are not like movies.  Unless it's a concept album like The Wall, I don't see a reason the need for a overly long album.   Some of my favorite albums ever are under 65 minutes.  Unless it's an EP, an album can hardly be too short.  Albums like Thriller, Dark Side of the Moon, The Fame Monster, Rumours, Led Zeppelin IV, Melodrama, and Purple Rain are extremely memorable and easy to listen to because of their short time lengths.

Same, even when I listen to Gaga's albums, I'm happy to get to the end because it gets mentally tiring.

It depends on how you listen to the music too. I like to fully get in the music, concentrate and do nothing else, but I know a lot of people half listen to it and do something else at the same time. So it wouldn't get so long for them.

It is better to have a long album in which you can skip tracks you don't like when you're listening through rather than a too short abum where it feels there are several tracks missing :gaycat:

I mean it always depends on the album and its actual quality, but my favourite albums all have 10-12 tracks, which I think is a good number.

I don't like it when artists but 15-16 songs on an album. It frequently makes them less cohesive, too long and it feels as though they are just throwing out a bunch of forgettable songs

I'd rather wait 5 years for 10 tracks, than 1-years for 16

The last album I considered to be too long was the 20/20 experience by JT. Both are separately 70 minutes, which is fine on it's own, but the way that they are both only 10 tracks long and each track is just so full of different sections, moments, interludes, instrumentals, etc... It's too much for too little content. It feels too deliberate, like its trying to be something larger or more interesting than it is, when it stands fine on its own :smh: A total of 20 tracks is over 140 minutes :rip:

I say this as a Lana stan and a classical musician that has set through several hour long concerts live of classical music and that frequently listens to 45 minute-hour long concertos and watches 3+ hour long Operas for fun :deadbanana:

Personally, albums that are only 30-40 minutes are too short to me. I don't want them to be quickly re playable, I want them to feel like an actual journey if they are made to be such. 45+ minutes is great. Once you hit 70, 75, there has to be a reason. Not a single Lana song to me has ever felt like it dragged, but thats a talent few people have :emma:

For individual tracks, anything under 3:30 rubs me the wrong way tbh, 3:00-3:30 is okay.. any song under 3 minutes though feels like an incomplete idea to me, or something entering Interlude land, ya know

I don't really care for the length of an album, I only listen to the songs I want to listen to in that particular moment. :giggle:

Except when it comes to Lady Gaga (surprise). The only album of hers I skip songs from is The Fame.

The Fame is the only Gaga album I could successfully get through :selena: I do sometimes stop mid Summerboy, I dislike that song :neyde:

I skip Summerboy too as well as Brown Eyes (sometimes) and Again Again (I've never heard that song in full). :selena:

All the other songs are amazing and it's definitely a wonderful debut album. :music:

When it's great and all the songs are bops like Born This Way I don't mind.

But when it's boring af and you wait for it to end that's too long
