You're referring to two particular individuals doing two particular things - the staffer who asked whether they should use Bernie's Judaism against him (I believe that person was fired, for that reason or another one, and I'm glad if they were), and Donna Brazile who gave Hillary some debate questions in advance. Poor judgment and tactless, but not exactly rocking my world over here. Don't mix up individuals with institutions, though. It's starting to seem as though the entire Trump campaign colluded with a foreign government to tilt our election, which I think I could comfortably argue is a much bigger deal than one oppo researcher overstepping the bounds of what conversations they should have, and with whom, to do their job as an oppo researcher. You're just repeating the same talking points about "stifling federal regulation" and "too high taxes." It isn't clear to me you could get more specific about it if you wanted to. Could you even name some federal regulations - those that the Trump Administration could actually halt - that affect the "Joes" and "Francescas" of the world? Edit to add: And I wonder which programs you'd want to cut in order to pay for an across-the-board tax cut. The roads Joe uses to get his goods to market? The FDA inspectors that make sure Francesca's fish are safe to eat? The COPS grants that make sure our cities' police departments have the resources they need to keep our communities safe? Or the SNAP benefits that all too many American families rely on to keep their kids from going hungry? It's not so easy to govern. By the way, Trump supports the use of eminent domain, which many Republicans don't. It's time to end your two-dimensional view of party politics amounting to "Republican = small government = good" and "Democrat = big government = bad." I wonder how Francesca would feel if her store was closed because the government needed the land for a new high-speed rail alignment.

I further imagine that they were the ones more likely to stick up for you and stand by you, here on GGD and in real life, when your father and others were being absolutely evil towards you as you began exploring your gender identify more openly (yes, I remember every chapter of the very long story of your transition). Would you look one of those good people in the face and tell them they are not capable of independent thought? You talk about compartmentalization; you've cast aside an enormous chunk of the American public - and many people you know and love - simply based on their party identification. How could you possibly accomplish anything with those people if you fail to acknowledge their humanity, and fail to appreciate genuine differences of opinion on the extremely complicated issues of the day? You, my friend, have changed a lot over the past few years. Perhaps you don't remember what you were like back then, but I sure do. And I hope you regain a little bit of what you've lost, because the prejudices you have now must make you absolutely miserable. I didn't mean the democrats in general, the average citizen, I was speaking in regards to the establishment Democratic Party, corrupt DNC (I mean, no duh. I was right there with all the Bernie supporters denouncing its corruption and stifling of the Sanders movement). I should have been more specific. Democrats themselves are generally very good people. But there is absolutely zero leadership in the establishment right now, and they have no cohesive policies. The only reason the democratic establishment is remaining slightly organized is because they can all agree on a common enemy. Figuring out Hillary's policies was like watching a full season of Ghost Hunters and waiting for a shred of concrete, consistent proof. Democrats have a damn right to be worried about healthcare and the economy. And of course about human rights, /especially/ about those. I simply feel that the left leaning economic beliefs as of late aren't the correct fix to the problem. The economic issue began when the federal government stepped in, and instead of denouncing that and repairing, many democrats are expecting the government to be the fix. It's like inviting a prissy, stuck up girl to the party planning and all she wants is to do it her way and take control, and she ends up messing it all up. Instead of kicking her out, the rest of the party is depending on her to fix it. It's like a really bad relationship. Those are my beliefs, personally. I disagree on certain policies. I think democrats are absolutely capable of independent thought. I think they deserve WORLDS better than what the DNC and establishment have given them. They deserve a proper voice. Unfortunately it just seems like many democrats are perfectly content with that voice being a shrill shreek towards the president than an articulated, policy focused one. The compartmentalization argument depended on the misconception that I meant the the democratic voters and individuals, so I don't believe it applies here. I think democrats can be far more human than conservatives sometimes. Far more empathetic and perhaps well meaning. I appreciate that. But sometimes it's not the case, unfortunately. I don't possess prejudice towards individuals, merely the federal government that keeps many of us in the dark.
Petrichor 4,640
I find it quite hysterical that the Conservatives have latched on to a small Politico story in whilst grasping with the first stage of grieving. Hopefully this'll blow over quite quickly and they can move on to anger (which they already practice quite fervently). What does this article implicate - so the Ukrainian government, beaten and browsed by the vile Russian government, told someone at the DNC that Manafort is a criminal bastard. Tell me, what's so illegal about that? They didn't come in contact with Hillary's campaign, and the information that they disseminated only proved that the campaign chair for Trump's campaign is a criminal? Is that a bad thing, exposing a criminal? I think not. To those of you who are still delusional enough to think Trump DIDN'T collude with the Russians, thing again. Trump Jr. is already done for, and when it finally comes out that Trump and Pence were in on it, the whole jig is up.

I have no problem paying taxes, the government protects people and gives to the needy and allows me to run my business in a great environment, it is only right for them to take a share to give people who were not as fortunate as me the same equal opportunity. And the deregulation Trump is talking about is just about Wall Street and the environment. Those regulations are needed for clean water and so we don't have another Wall Street bailout/Wall Street caused recession. Trumps tax breaks also benefit the rich, with the rich getting the most tax cuts even though the rich only pay about 10% income tax rate because of all the loopholes and tax incentives the government gives the top 1%, they should actually be paying more and you should be angry someone in the top 1% is paying less than you. California recently proposed to require a permit for dog walking. That couldn't be less free market, and you're going to tell me Trump isn't against those types of policies? Yes, in a free market there would be no regulations. Is that a proper free market? I certainly don't think so. Taxes are stifling people's spending money? Really? You do realize that the vast majority, in fact 2/3 households in America, pay less that 15% federal income taxes. Historically that is quite low. The truth of the matter is that the tax burden on most Americans is far smaller today than it was anytime in the 80s, which is a decade Republicans champion for deregulation and low taxes (despite the fact it sparked economic turmoil). If you actually cared about the price of consumer goods in this country, you should be terrified of Trump. You do realize his plan to stop us from "losing on trade" is going to increase prices dramatically, right? Their plan is to artificially cut (through regulation, darling) of good coming to the US from countries where they are made cheap, and instead produce those good in the US where we'll make them at a higher price. I too am curious as to what specific regulations you have problems with. The dog walking example has nothing to do with free market economics unless you're paying someone to walk your dog. If we look across industries, regulations are slipping away. Bank regulations are VERY relaxed, and corporations have the power to conduct business today in a way that we've never let them before. Americans are struggling to pay their mortgages, rent, and put food on their tables because they haven't gotten a raise. Corporations in America have literally never accumulated so much wealth and you want to regulate them less to help small business compete with them? Sorry but that's just nonsensical. Small business is dying to big business and it's because, in part, we've let corporations become wealthier than most countries. Take Walmart for example. Walmart pays it's employees so little that most of them need government aide to survive. Things like food stamps and welfare. If Walmart paid their employees enough money that they didn't have to receive government aide, we could take that money and DOUBLE all research and development in this country. DOUBLE it. That's insanity. The reality is that roughly half (45%) of adult Americans do not pay taxes at all. The vast Americans pay very little in taxes. The majority of Americans wouldn't even be able to cover an unexpected cost of just $400. That's not because they pay too much in taxes, but rather incomes have been stagnant or falling for low-skilled laborers. It's not because businesses can't pay them more - corporate profits are at an all time high. Walmart could EASILY pay their employees a "living wage" (I realize that is a loaded term) and keep prices low, but they rather have most of their profits go to corporate executives and shareholders. Businesses are very much unwilling to raise wages, and Republicans have been successful in keeping minimum wage the same for 8 years now, meaning the real minimum wage is falling every day. Not exactly, it heavily relies that the throttling regulations aren't unethical/monopolizing if they're removed, and the decreased taxes would effect the poor and middle classes by promoting confidence to buy and use that money. Trickle-down economics is fundamentally flawed since it's usually just hoarded at the top. If my bucket is filled with soapy water, and I'm handing out sponges soaked in the soapy water to my workers that are cleaning cars, giving me an extra bucket of soapy water won't speed up the amount of cars that need to be washed. I don't possess prejudice towards individuals, merely the federal government that keeps many of us in the dark. Actually, the economy under the Democrats is better because of regulating big business and higher taxes on the wealthy. You see from 1935 to 1979, under Progressive policies, 70% of the wealth accumulation went to the bottom 90% and the top 1% were paying their fair share in taxes as well as big corporations. Under trickle down it is the complete opposite with almost 90% of wealth going to the top 1% and the rich paying much less in taxes and big corporations paying almost nothing as well. Under trickle down, Wall Street crashes the economy due to deregulation which causes millions of Americans to lose their homes and to lose employment which destroys small business. Which is why Dodd Frank was established as well as the Consumer Protection Agency, something the Republicans want gone. The Democrats are right about healthcare and a lot of Republicans agree with them, we need Single Payer so the risk pool is opened to all Americans which lets healthcare costs go down for middle class families by 50%. Under what you are describing, it is ok for students to be cheated on student loans because you would eliminate regulations, it is ok for water to be poisoned by coal and fracking fluids because of eliminating EPA regulation, it is ok for Wall Street to crash the economy and cause millions to loose stock holdings, houses, mortgages, and jobs because it deregulates the economy, it is ok to take money away from medicare and medicaid because it shrinks the size of the federal government, it is ok for millions to not be covered by healthcare and it is ok for health insurance companies to drop people because they get sick or pregnant because it is a free healthcare market and deregulation. Now you can have your beliefs, but does this benefit the bottom 99%? This is what you are describing and it doesn't sound like a good and fair America to me GGD Presidential Elections

" With what working Congress though? "The Democratic Party doesn't speak to or for the American people any longer" Maybe in 2016 when ignorance began sweeping the nation. As of now Republicans are leaving their own party. What do you even mean by that? Over 60 million people voted Democrat in a popular vote winning election. Small, rural Americans need to understand that America isn't like it was in 1950. We're a world trading/functioning country. We don't depend on small communities anymore. Also, can we please stop taking these impeachment claims so seriously.. Impeachment isn't coming. So stop feeding that to the people. We also need to stop generalizing all Dems and Republicans. Lastly, I don't understand why you're talking down to Dems about policy making when Republicans had 7 years to come up with a healthcare plan, after trashing the ACA through amendments, and still not coming up with anything even though Trump said he would repeal and replace on day one.
