Honestly someone should email a transcript of thisĀ landmarkĀ thread to Gaga because she needs to hear all this constructive commentary so she can get into the studio and deliver us the godly material we know she is capable of delivering.

But I get your point and I agree completely. She has yet to release a song that is on par with the amount of talent she has and is capable to showcase it. But she's not alone on that. Whitney, Celine, Michael, Aretha biggest and most iconic hitsĀ weren't made by them, but for them. I guess she just need to open herself to collaborate more withĀ people than can see her as big as she actually is. Fernando Garibay was near to that, and that's how The Edge of Glory (her biggest song yet imo) came to life.

Adding to that, that's why I love Mariah Carey so much. She managed to coproduce and write songs that matched her talent and became iconic songs (Hero, My All, We Belong Together, etc.).

Actually, MJĀ composed and wrote most of his material himself. Don't Stop Till You Get Enough, Billie Jean, Wanna Be Starting Somethin, some songs with The Jacksons, Most songs on the BAD album, most songs on the Dangerous album and most songs on the HIStory album (disc II) were written and composed by him (his producersĀ had co-writer credits). Only some of his early hits, and some hits on Off The Wall and Thriller weren't fully composed and/or written by himself. He always worked out his compositions with producers, similar to how Gaga works.

REALITY

I lowkey agree with this, but if I'm being honest, more with her older stuff.

Spoiler

And by "older stuff" I mean TFM/TF

Spoiler

Drag me all you want

Ā

Now when it comes to some songs like Bad Romance, Just Dance, and Alejandro, I love. But if I'm being honest, I was never into those eras and I think she really kicked things off with Born This Way when she was experimenting a bit more with different genres.

I became a stan during ARTPOP (and this is another confession), I was more in tune with her attitude and her mentality towards the duality of ART and POP rather than the music. ARTPOP is aĀ fantasticĀ album, but really I don't care for some stuff on it because it's just something I can't get into.Ā

As she's matured and grown as an artist, I definitely more appreciate her as an artist. Joanne is hands down my favorite album from hers as of todayĀ becauseĀ I feel like she's coming out of her shell, and hopefully in the future, she'll venture off into different territory.

I mean, I actually think she's best at the piano, with just her and the instrument. She's a great perform,Ā absolutely,Ā but I feel like she's at home and works best when it's just so simple.Ā

She's a rock/jazz/pop chick at heart (and maybe country now that Joanne's out), and I really want her to explore some of that more. We've yet to see her best work, and I think she'll only deliver more of that later on.

Clock me with them receipts, haha. I'm not that familiar with MJ's work, but I know he was more involved that people usually credits him, just like Gags. I was thinking mostly in Thriller, and it wasn't on a bad lighting, as I want Gaga to let herself collab more.Ā

I get your point. I kinda agree tbh. I think Gaga tries to keep it simple and "still pop" but it's on purpose. ARTPOP sounds silly on purpose. Bad Romance and Poker Face both have super smartĀ lyrics and innovative melodies and they kinda embody her talent. AlsoĀ TEOG, MTN, Bloody Mary, Dope and ARTPOPĀ to name a few. A big example is Perfect Illusion. It could be more interesting and "well-written" if she wanted to. She needs to go for it for LG6

fun fact: MJ and Quincy Jones wrote/composed 900 songs for Thriller, and narrowed them down to the eventual 9 with a team of songwriters and other composers (like the band Toto, who helped making the song Human Nature) ...some songs even switched lyrics because they flowed better on different beats.

They literally did that to revive the music industry and to up the quality standard of how good an album should sound. At the time the sound quality difference was immense, and a lot of artists started to improve and up their ability in crafting songs.

I actually agree. I don't think anyĀ of her "Gaga" material has matched "Captivated" for instance. And her performance of "You've got a friend" shows the brilliance that results from Gaga performing an exemplary song. Ā There is still a lot of room for Gaga to grow as a songwriter.

Tbh, I've felt the same way for a while - I just feel like part of the reason is that she is singing classic,Ā iconic songs and it's hard for every song in your own repertoire to be that heavy. She's also focused more on the musicality of the performance - so she isn't sacrificing any vocals for heavy choreography.

I will say that performances like this:

Ā

live up to the same sort of standard imo.

I think sometimes it's less her and more her label restraints. I mean, she has some crazy wild instrumentals like Ratchet's or the Aura demoĀ that just don't get used because they're too into a genre for Top 40. I mean, thoseĀ showĀ the breadth of her potential and dedication to a genre where I think sometimes by the time she gets to the final product it's a bit watered down and "restrained" as you put it.

Ā

I mean, look at the songs where she has sole credits. The lady can write a great, classicĀ song. But having a team ofĀ editors can be both to her benefit (DiC's lyrics) or detriment (final vocal track of Aura).

Smother Em Eh

Although I don't think she is entirely too good for her material, her music does not showcase her full potential. As we all know she is super talented, and I just wish she would show case it all! I honestly wanted her to drift away from pop music, because it just doesn't show how truly talented she really is! I want more Jazz albums, Oh and a full on rock album! For those of you saying, she should do a sophisticated album, I couldn't agree more! I want a lot real instruments and AWESOME vocals! And with her most of her pop material, it doesn't have a lot of true musical feels because most of her material lacks real instruments!Ā
