Gaga Is Too Good For Her Own Material

Confession time: this might come as a shock to you but I would rather listen to Gaga sing covers than her own material.

I'll turn on my location in a moment if you want to fight but just hear me out gays

The majority of pop stars have talent that matches the work they deliver: Madonna, Katheryn Perry, Brinty Spears, Rhenna, and T-Swizzle, to name a few. But Gaga is just not one of those artists. At the risk of sounding like a pretentious little stan, I think her talent vastly outweighs what she delivers most of the time.

Now I'm not saying her material is bad. She's gifted the world with some very well crafted pop over the years, but hardly any of them (with the exception of maybe Bad Romance and a few others) have been able to capture her fullest potential imo and it kind of frustrates me.

Joanne was cute and The Cure is great to bop to on the way to the grocery store but I'm left with a case of musical blue balls. I feel like Gaga at the beginning of John Wayne rn: I just need her to go a little "fasTER!"

Let me just add that this is not me "missing the old Gaga" or "wishing CrazyGa came back" or hating on Joanne because it's not radio pop. I'm not saying any of that. What I'm saying is that watching Gaga sing about tapping down her boots while she beats around is like watching Leonardo Da Vinci draw stick figures or Beethoven compose a jingle for McDonalds.

The Gaga performances I end up watching over and over and over again are pretty much always her covers. Her rendition of "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You" is just one of many examples. It takes my breath away every single time.

When I watch it I'm ELATED: I get goosebumps, my heart skips three beats, and my constipation clears up, because I know I'm watching a legend. I've just never had that same feeling when watching her sing one of her own songs.

Idk, maybe it's just me. I'd love to hear what you all think.

I love her covers as well, but as far as being too good for her own material, I disagree.

She is a pop artist and she does pop damn well. Her melodies are expertly crafted for pop. Imo, she is the Da Vinci / Beethoven of Pop Music. Perhaps her lyrics could use some adjustments at times, but I don't see how Carol King's music is supposedly on a higher level than Gaga's music, or how Bowie's music is, or any other musician she's covered.

She has a great versatile voice, and I think she uses it expertly even within her own music.

i get your point, and i can agree with it a bit, for example, imo whenever she's singing/playing her piano ballads, i think that she's delivering more. Songs like TEOG, Hair, Speechless, You And I, even Million Reasons, is when i feel like she's doing it best.

I get your feeling, Joanne was a step in the right direction IMO. Joanne and Million Reasons are among the best songs she has ever written imo, despite their simplicity (or maybe even BECAUSE of their simplicity).

Honestly.... I kind of agree. And I definitely understand what you mean: this is absolutely not a bad thing at all. I love Gaga's music so much, but I know she's restraining a little bit. We absolutely have yet to see her best. The performances of hers that hit me the hardest are her covers, and some of her own songs. So I do agree. Y'all just wait, she's still gonna wreck our weaves soon.

lowkey agree. Most of the GP comments would praise her talent and then they would quickly say it's a shame she could not reflect it on her material
