how many more performances could she have done to get a #1?

No shade, but like 50 :selena:

Million Reasons was doing great, it was the Super Bowl that made it Top 5

Honestly Gaga done a **** tonne of promo before the superbowl for that song and it barely made any significant impact on its chart performance. The fact it got exposed to 117 Million people in one go and only managed top 15 for one single week is tragic.

But hey, it’s gonna be 2x platinum soon and will probably be Grammy nominated so there’s that :)

MR struck out

But MR did well...MTN was the one that "struck out" if you're gonna use that phrase. Striking out isn't good.

Been a long time but I'm back in town, and this time I'm not leaving without you

MR's success is attributed to its Super Bowl performance, I doubt it would have peaked as high as it did without that, but its hard to guess how it would have done in terms of longevity on the charts without it. Maybe it could have done similarly but nobody can be sure

1 million pure sales in the US

slayed radios after the Super Bowl,

will win some Grammys. it's really predicted to be nominated by a lot of critics/sites

Yes it paid off.

This. People need to stop acting like 1 million sales in the US is anything to scoff at. It's 2017. Only 5 songs released in 2017 could do 1M.

Honestly the music video ruined its momentum, I remember all the amazing performances she did prior to the music video and I would rather have any of those performances as the music video than the one we got.

If MR had the radio audience it had at its peak AND the sales/streaming it got the week of the super bowl it would have been #2 that week at least. Possibly #1 but I would need to see a points breakdown of that particular week's #1. It's massive sales and streaming rush it got that week was like 2 months before it actually peaked on radio.

While the Super Bowl shot its chart positions and sales exponentially, I feel like the steady, heavier promotion she did beforehand really kept the song as "the song that could".

Up until the Halftime Show, charts were ugly, but sales were pretty impressive, and consistent. I personally view it kind of like a slow distance run, with SB51 being the sprint to the finish, with a quick cooldown run after.

3 points in and ready for more
